COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The festive season just wouldn’t be the same without this speciality beer whose arrival is always long-awaited. The tradition of Christmas beers is particular to northern Europe. In the years following the Second World War, the breweries used to sell an original, richer and stronger beer at the same price as year-round beers: this was their gift to their customers. The Duycks have perpetuated this custom by creating a special beer sold at the usual price. Produced with more malt than Jenlain Ambrée (3 different types of malt made from French grown barley and 3 varieties of the most aromatic hops from Alsace), this top fermented, unpasteurized beer, best served at between 6 and 8°C, has a rich amber glow, a denser head and stronger alcohol content (6.8% alcohol by volume). Darker than the traditional amber beer, its torrefied undertones are reminiscent of flowers and caramel. And the 2002 Christmas beer had a hint of orange.

Amber coloured with medium head. Aroma is filled with chocolate and spices. Flavour is citrus and coriander. Has a bittersweet aftertaste. Nice beer.

Dark amber and moderate head. The aroma and flavour have notes of candy sugar, fruit, apple peel, and the flavour also has sweetness and citrus. Rather boring, when you think of the 2002 vintage. It had distinct notes of orange and Christmas Spice, that gave that little extra, that made it worth remembering IMO

750ml bottle poured a clear orange copper with a small amber head. Aromas of orange, toffee and just a hint of carmel. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of orange, carmel and some floral notes with a crisp sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours clear dark orange to brown with a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, pear esters, peppery alcohol, nutmeg notes and spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, spicy and peppery alcohol with light fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium-full body and medium carbonation.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2010 from supermarket Carrefour, Morteau, France - pours a clear amber colour under a solid foamy pale beige head; some toasted malts, dust and fresh cut apples; medium-bodied and sweet, juicy and with a very low bitterness; slightly dry fruity and malty finish - inoffensive

Bottle... Clear amber ale with orange highlights and a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Excellent, creamy retention. The aroma is of bicuity malts, vanilla and mild orange. Honey-sweet, vanilla flavor; not all that fruity. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Sweet finish. Overall, too sweet for me.

just a very good balanced taste profile beverage that worked for my friend and I for supper. Orange taste was apparent and not over the top. A nice biere de garde, moderated spicey taste overall , some citrus, not too bitter nor sweet perhaps it was aged some.

750mL at DC Elite. Pours a clear amber with not much of a head. Aroma of brandied orange, copper, metals, but the primary note is spicy, sweet brandy and orange cognac. Taste is sweet, watery, big metallic. I really want to like this beer because it has a lot of potential but ends up being very difficult to drink even in a small snifter. Copper penny character is just too much.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2010 Bottle. Deep amber pour. The nose is sweet and a bit honeyish with an unusual dark candi sweetness. A fairly odd kiss of clover honey and a bit of strange herbal character. There is some bitter orange on the back. It’s hard to put my finger on why I don’t like this, but I really don’t Tap at Ginger Man. Clear pale amber pour with no head. The nose has very little aroma actually. A touch of light candy sweetness and a little bit of soft toasted sweetness as well. It is strangely clear with little contribution of either yeast or malt. There is just a touch of orange peel and some cotton candy. Very, very strange brew. A touch of citrus on the back. Peppery 6 3 6 2 11

0.75l bottle from jaghana - cheers! Brown colour, large beige head. Vinous aroma with herbs and roasetd malts, also fresh peaches in the aroma. Interesting combination of sweet and malty flavours/caramel, vinous character and a shy touch of fruit (peach, red grapes). Smooth palate. Very nice indeed, I enjoyed it very much.
