Commercial Description:
In 1991, the brewery decided to revive an old custom harking back to the 14th century when there were no means of refrigeration. Beer was then traditionally brewed in early December and stored over the winter under naturally cool conditions. The first barrels were only opened in March, as the days started to become warmer. It has a fresh, springlike bouquet with dominant tones of malt and grains. It is made using a top fermentation yeast, malted barley and newly harvested Alsation hops. With 5.4% alcohol by volume, it is a pure malt beer that is highly refreshing. It has a fine white head and clear golden colour, a dominant hoppy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Best served between 5 and 6°C.

Pours an ambery golden color, huge pillowy frothy head, incredible retention, frothy/pillowy to the finish, lacing rings all the way down. The aroma was grassy, fruity, grainy malts. The flavor was grainy, a touch of wheat/corn, light fruits, light zingy spice in the finish, but strong malt presence, firm grass flavors, yet not dry or bitter enough for me. Could have come off blind like a maibock/hellesbock, or even a strong lager. Mouthfeel was too thick for spring / beginning of summer. Drinkable, not loveable.

Bottle. Pours golden yellow with orange highlights. Standard BDG nose of dry yeast and hops with some lemony, floral and spicy notes. Lively carbonation. Quite refreshing but nothing over the top. Flavor is nicely balanced with some sour bread, lemon and honey notes. Quite drinkable.

Pours a beautiful sunset golden/orange body and a fluffy white cap of head. The lacing drapes the inner glass. The aroma is rather sweet with malts, flowery and perfumy. The flavor begins with a lightly and earthy presence of tart doughy yeast, it is minimal, thought. Next comes the sweet, honey like malts, like fresh honey nut bread... The finish is a roundness of both yeasty, sugary, with hints of banana, coriander, green apples, and peaches. A unique beer… I hope to find it somewhere on draft in Paris in about 2 ½ weeks.

It’s a golden, cloudy beer with a relatively nice head. The aroma has fresh notes of hops, flower and spice, and I find this in the flavour too. It’s refreshing, light and ideal for a days on the veranda.

Pours clear, pale gold with sturdy foamy white head. Great retention and good lacing. Hop aromas predominantly flowery perfume and lemon citrus. Plenty of malt evident in the nose as well: cereal and honey. The sweaty aromatics of yeast are present as well, combining with the malts for an impression of ripe Brie. The beer is medium-full bodied and clean up front, but mineraly and drying late - a little too much so for my taste. But now I’m just splitting hairs.

75cl bottle from Auchan, Calais. Oh bugger, someone has gone and brewed a beer into a style that I find completely entrancing. Like the Noels, the French breweries all look as though they produce a Printemps as well. This is so much better than the standard blondes due to the stronger influence of hops. In no way is this beer perfect for everyone, but for my taste buds it is wonderful. Gold colour thick white head. Yeast and woody hops aroma, citrus fruit all over the creamy mouth and then sharp hop on end. After cycling home from work, this was perfect. I must organise more meetings in Calais.
