Commercial Description:
In 1991, the brewery decided to revive an old custom harking back to the 14th century when there were no means of refrigeration. Beer was then traditionally brewed in early December and stored over the winter under naturally cool conditions. The first barrels were only opened in March, as the days started to become warmer. It has a fresh, springlike bouquet with dominant tones of malt and grains. It is made using a top fermentation yeast, malted barley and newly harvested Alsation hops. With 5.4% alcohol by volume, it is a pure malt beer that is highly refreshing. It has a fine white head and clear golden colour, a dominant hoppy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Best served between 5 and 6°C.

Bottle. Labeled as Printemps Biere de Mars." Shared with Josh while watching the sun set over Chokoloskee Bay. Pours bright gold with a slight haze and leaves lace that looks like a sponge painting. Goat, gamey funk. Farmhouse. Some leather, some suede. Slight ginger, then rounds out with cereal. Sweet and sour, funky, quaffable, good gamey qualities.

750 ml botle labeled as Printemps and under it says "Biere De Mars:" in a different label than what is shown. Porus a deep gold color with a nice lasting medium white head- carbonation seems a bit on the mellow side. Aroma is toasty malts with lots of grassy hops, a bit of metallic hints, and a bit phenolic- seems like it is old somehow? Flavor is a bit stale as well- malts seem not as fresh as they could be- more cracker-like and off, with more grass, and light phenolics. Crisp and clean but a bit of metal in the end as it warms. I wasnt crazy about this one- A waste of $9 I think.

Bottle: Poured a light clear copper color ale with a nice foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of grainy malt with some light dry hops. Taste is also dominated by some unrefined dry grain which is more or less pleasing with some notes of dry stale hops. Light body with average carbonation. I will have to say that this was quite bland and boring and not something I will try again anytime soon.

Pours a perfectly clear golden yellow with a brief loose head and an unpleasant stale-hop and corny-malt aroma with a touch of honey. Tastes like a pilsener with just a hint of honey, but rapidly degrades in the finish. Apple juice, reminds me of the artificial sweeteners used in liquid medicine (not banana, but oddly fuirty). Body is undercarbonated and thin. I’m not entirely certain this is a Biere de Garde proper, as it tastes like a stale honey-lager. Thanks to Robinvboyer for the trade - hey, never tried Alsatian hops before, and French beers don’t come by these parts very often! Thanks!

Bottle. Pours a clear, bubbly pale gold with an average size frothy white head. Aroma’s sweet, grainy and a little sugary along with some faint grassy hops. Flavour’s watery, sweet and grainy along with light grassy hops and some vegetal notes. Average bodied. It’s O.K. I guess but it’s too sweet and watery for me. I wouldn’t get it again.

Aroma of malt with pear, golden amber, small white head. Taste is fruit, malt, a harshness that all the Jenlain seem to have, Happy Springtime.

Bottle, 75cl corked. Poured a sparkling, clear golden body with a nice, fluffy white head leaving nice lacings. Fruity nose, mostly yellow apples, with some sweetness and pale malts and a touch of cellar. The flavor lead my thoughts in the direction of Belgian blond meets pilsner, with grainy notes, pale malt, grass, some hops, fruityness and a little bitterness. Quite effervescent in the mouth, medium fullness. Fruity and grainy finish with apples and pears, quite low on bitterness. A quaffable beer, but I doesn’t give the impression of being a beer one can drink all night, one bottle should be enough. (080301)
