Commercial Description:
In 1991, the brewery decided to revive an old custom harking back to the 14th century when there were no means of refrigeration. Beer was then traditionally brewed in early December and stored over the winter under naturally cool conditions. The first barrels were only opened in March, as the days started to become warmer. It has a fresh, springlike bouquet with dominant tones of malt and grains. It is made using a top fermentation yeast, malted barley and newly harvested Alsation hops. With 5.4% alcohol by volume, it is a pure malt beer that is highly refreshing. It has a fine white head and clear golden colour, a dominant hoppy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Best served between 5 and 6°C.

Bottle 330 ml
Appearance: It looks great in large tulip glass , deep gold with touch of copper, large frisky soft top.
Nose : Sweet blend of grainy malts with aromatic grassy hops and light spicy hints on top. Second impressions show mineral side to aroma.
Flavor/Palate : Medium light bodied with good barley malt base. More of mineral character exposed with late soft bitterness. Reminds me ale made rendition of Bohemian pilseners but with spicier drier tale. Quiet nice quality ale.

Bottle (330ml). Clear pale gold with a frothy bright white head - a CLEAR BdG? Sweet and grassy, only a hint of spice; funky-floral. Grassy and kind of sour aroma - there is spice here, but mostly clover sweetness - like Sammy says, more of a sweet, slightly catty pils. Slick, average body, a little acidic in the quick finish - meh.

I favour biere de garde and saisons but this was closer to a European pale lager than the style would suggest. Yellow with a bit of yeasty white head. Cheesy aroma. Under average mouthfeel. Just a cut above a macro lager.

bright golden pour, small white head. Aroma is VERY mealy, and grainy. Flavour is more of the same. Seems like all these beers in this style dissapoint, Its got a nice malt profle, but its quite mealy, and doesnt really blow me away, a good session beer i suppose.

While this won’t win any personal awards on my behalf, this has a certain seductive something to it: pours a rich golden yellow with champagne-like carb and a small cloudy head, Pils scents with some straw and fruitiness up top. Very nice lacing, kind of like in those Stella Artois commercials that took place during the War (it’s not the same today, is it). Some spice, some sweet malts, a dry, almost astringent but fresh finish. Reminds me of some of the non-Trappist Belgian summer beers I’ve had. Not great. Definitely some metallic flavours upfront, which took away from a lot of it. Not bad for Jenlain.

Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding.
[vintage 2004]
Pours a wonderful clear golden with a medium frothy white head. Aroma is mildly malty, dough, light herbal hops. Lively mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit oxidized, rather sweet with a dose of a floral finish. Overall, it is rather nice, but I suspect it has gained from the cellaring, balancing the sweetness a little. Okay beer.

Bottle LCBO. Yellow pour with at first lively crisp loud carbonation, good sized white head and then nothing. At all. Still looking yellow piss, not a hint of carbonation or head. Not very inviting. Dominating grain and malt in average aroma. Taste is a little better - somewhat sweet, more malt and grain, but with a few floral like hops thrown in. Very dry. Not all that good.

I tried this beer on March 3, 2008 after purchasing it at one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a golden colour with some reddish hints. The head was huge, white, and short-lived...quickly dissipating into uneven lacing on top. The aroma was very grassy with a little bit of malt. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with ample carbonation. The flavour was very grassy as well with some hints and very subtle hoppiness.
