Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000.
Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France, milled in the traditional way by Sebourg’s miller. And to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.
St. Druon de Sebourg is the French version of a blonde abbey ale, similar in style to those found across the nearby border in Belgium. It is spicy and effervescent, and much hoppier than typical bière de garde.

From the bottle. Light yellow with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor is mild and slightly oxidized. Notes of wheat, grassy hops, slight tropical fruit show. Finish has a mild spicing. Just not much to this beer, might have been a bit old from the oxidized flavor.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of pilsner malt and perfumy hops. Taste is perfumy and dry with hints of sugar and decent maltiness underneath. Finishes on the dry side.

Not bad! I think it lives above it’s percentile, basically a smooth and intense wheat beer. Blonde is a good label. It has some nice spice in the aroma, but nothing too over the top. Very drinkable, even for someone who has never really had this style.

hazy gold with a large mountainous, rocky head. rockiest head i have ever seen. bright, hoppy, citrus, yeast aroma. some peach or apricot aroma too. lemon, grains, and slightly herbal. not much yeast character. aroma is better than flavor.

Bottle. Poured hazy orange color with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus and spice aroma. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. Medium fruity sweet flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. Refreshing drinkable beer.

From a caged cork 750 ml. green bottle with a bottled date, 03/2005, stamped on the front label and a short blurb on the right side of label, sampled at cellar temperature in a chalice. Poured a slightly hazy orangey golden with a foamy white that settled into thin sudsy lacing. Aromas of lemon grass and apples, spices and herbs, and dry wheat malts, a bit medicinal as well. Good carbonation and a crisp, dry, carbonated smooth light bodied mouthfeel. Nice, pleasant taste, green apples with a light dusting of brown sugar, medicinal herbs, spicy hops, honey with lemon and oranges, the alcohol is not that noticeable, but does provide a warming presence, and a dry, light yeasty, herbal and sweet malty finish, decent blonde abbey ale drinkability. An o.k. abbey blond, not bad, moderately priced, but not something I would be a regular of.

Bottle from Super Saver. Gold pour with 1-finger creamy white head. Aroma of some funky yeast, hopcitrus, apricot, and slight florals. The taste is floral and hopcitric, with mid-palate yeasty funk and spice. This one gets a bit fruitier and less dry as it warms up.

In the 330 mL bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a hazy rich gold with a thick fine-bubbled white head. lacing encircles the glass in rows. The aroma is not heavy, but you clearly get coriander and pepper. Maybe a bit of butterscotch. Has a delicious flavor of apples. I find this to be superbly sweet with a nice balancing hop bitterness. Has a discernable perfume nature. The body is perfect for the style. Fairly quick finish to such a flavorful beer. Delicious. I’m going against the grain on this one which is currently scored a "3" overall.
