Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000.
Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France, milled in the traditional way by Sebourg’s miller. And to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.
St. Druon de Sebourg is the French version of a blonde abbey ale, similar in style to those found across the nearby border in Belgium. It is spicy and effervescent, and much hoppier than typical bière de garde.

Bright gold in color with a thick, tight, well-sustained, white head. Aroma of cork (actually OK for style) and sweet, damp earth. Sweet, honeyied malt, earthy hops, a touch of cork, a peppery spiciness...this is a Saison for the masses.

Bottle, Unpleasany skunky smell. Poured pale yellow with huge foamy head. Taste is kind of bland, kind of flat and sour with something else...This was thin watery and ok.

Hazy, lemony-wheat-yellow body under a white film of a head. Diverse aromas: light, grainy malt with lemony hops and a soapy yeastiness. Flavor starts sour... and finishes sour/bitter with a weak consistency (slightly enhanced by light carbonation). Dry palate.

Bottle at Spring Brewtopia 2005... Clear, yellow ale with a mid-sized, fizzy, white head. Floral, spicy nose with lesser notes of fuzzy fruit, biscuit and wildflower honey. Malty and sweet with hints of honey and toffee in the flavor. Medium-bodied and creamy with fizzy carbonation. Short, crisp, lightly sweet finish.

Better than the rating indicates. I’m not fond of French beer. My reaction to it, like Italian beer, is "Hey, stick to wine." But this was good. Ocher body under fleeting off white head. Sweet, fruity, spicy aroma. Apples. Corriander? The mouthfeel was very good. Lively carbonation, thin and watery texture. The flavor was spiced tart apples, vanilla, and yeasty sweetness mixed with the sour.

Reminds me of a Belgian - has that same fruity, bubbly?, sweet flavor. Not bad - I’d try it again.
