COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000.
Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France, milled in the traditional way by Sebourg’s miller. And to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.
St. Druon de Sebourg is the French version of a blonde abbey ale, similar in style to those found across the nearby border in Belgium. It is spicy and effervescent, and much hoppier than typical bière de garde.

Green bottle that wasn’t skunked! Sweet like other biere de gardes but much more subtlety so. Wheat flavor combines with the unusual yeast to give it an almost sour funk but not really. For me this works. Serving: Bottle

A - Pours a clear golden straw color. Bone-white head that forms a thin ceiling of tiny bubbles. S - Spicy Belgian yeast, green apples, pears, clove, lemon citrus, sweet wheat. T - Clean wheat off the top, not as much yeast as the nose described. Bits of green fruit apples, grapes, and pears meld well with the spice. Has a lemon pepper kick towards. Finishes crisp and dry. M - Effervescent carbonation, light bodied. The nose is very nice on this one with the yeast and fruit being on the forefront. Wheat as more pronounced in the flavor. Highly drinkable. Very refreshing. Serving type: bottle 12-23-2010

Light pour, fluffy white head. Straight forward caramel malt, light hops, some crackery notes, a bit of spice. Meh.

St. Druon de Sebourg has a thin, loose, white head and an opaque, bright-orange appearance, with scant lacing and brown yeast pieces afloat. This clouds up even more upon swishing the bottle and pouring in the residual yeast and gunk. The aroma is strong- alcohol, fermented grain, sugar, citrus rind, and dates. Taste is of a similar cast, with an overall old character. Hop bitterness is minimal. Mouthfeel is medium and chewy, and St. Druon de Sebourg finishes mostly dry, mellow, and relatively easy drinking. It is unusual, as bier de garde tends to be, but I rate it excellent, nonetheless. New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3.75): Pours an orange color with a white head. Aroma is mildly yeasty, with a bit of subtle hops, and some fruitiness. Taste is quite sweet and honey-like. It is kind of one dimensional, but it is quite all right. Not really enough taste is in this here jawn. Hops are present and kind of spicy throughout. ’Tis ok.

The aroma is sweet, fruity. The appearance is cloudy orange, white head. The flavor is sweet, fruit, caramel. The finish is sweet, then peppery, and pine needles. Pretty good.

750 ml casked and corked bottle. The highlight for me was when the cork hit my ceiling and bounced acrross me office, like a bodacious champagne. Smell is a little skunky, with noticeable yeast. Aroma has caramel and a little fruitiness. Mouthfeel is smooth without too much carbonation.Taste is sightly sweet, without much of any finish. Medium body and at best average carbonation. Nothing outrageusly good here, but worth a try if you’ve goy $9 to blow for curioisity’s sake.

From the caged, corked green 25 fl. oz. bottle. The green bottle is an immediate turn off because as soon as I pop the cork I get that inevitable, disappointing skunkiness that throws everything off. After a few deep whiffs I get a bit of sweet malts and citrus. The body is extremely smooth and silky. Thankfully the green bottle seemed to have less of an impact on the taste, which was sweetly malted with mild bitterness. I wonder how it would taste from a brown bottle.
