COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000.
Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France, milled in the traditional way by Sebourg’s miller. And to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.
St. Druon de Sebourg is the French version of a blonde abbey ale, similar in style to those found across the nearby border in Belgium. It is spicy and effervescent, and much hoppier than typical bière de garde.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of coriander, plastic, and alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Unpleasant from start to finish...plasticky, dirty tasting, watery, blah.

This golden ale pours with no head. There is an initially sweet hoppy flavor with a slightly bitter finish. A bit watery tasting at first, but the flavor intensifies as the beer warms.

Draft at the Seattle International Beerfest. Clear gold body with a thin white head. Nice lemon and grass nose. Well balanced attack. Lots of lemon and grass and gloral notes on the mid-palate. Nice and light. Not much finish. Hides the alcohol well.

Bottle sampled in my NB worthy glass:

Clear golden hue with a small lasting fizzy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of banana, lemon pie, grassy and herbal hops, pepper and light clove, and some musty yeast ester. The taste starts a bit fruit and citric with a bready and wheaty background. Some undertone of pepper and orange zest. The feel is refreshing and easy going. This is a good brew and it hit the spot.

(Rating #5217)
