Commercial Description:
The Duysters Brewery may well be the smallest commercial brewery in Belgium - annual production of both its beers is only about 650 cases. Loterbol is a crisp blonde ale that is very tasty and mightily satisfying. It drinks much stronger than its 6.8% alcohol by volume would suggest, and tastes a little spicy, though no spices are used in the brewing. The exotic palate of this beer comes from the unique strain of yeast. Duysters Brewery flourishes in the shadow of one of the world’s largest breweries, Interbrew, in the nearby town of Leuven. But there is no mistaking this exquisite hand-crafted brew for the mass-product of the nearby beer factory. ‘Loterbol’ is a Flemish word for a fool or prankster, an allusion to the deceptive smoothness and drinkability of this beer. Selected as one of the fifty best beers in the world by Men's Journal magazine, July 2005.

Nice white foamy head with staying power; lovely golden, cloudy color-can taste the alcohol, but it is not overwhelming. On the nose, banana, malt, and hoppiness. Enjoyable, but not one of mt top 50.

Medium semi-hazy gold, fair amount of sticky white foam, Flavor is initially vanilla and cotton candy then gets an interesting flinty mineral like character, maybe some hints of cedar and orange peel, smooth but with definite backbone. It’s all most like a champagne aftertaste, that blend of Pinot and chardonnay, maybe even some oak . Nicely comlex and unique ale.

33cl bottle, BB May 05. Duvel tulip...solid stream of CO2 going straight up the middle of the beer. Big, Rocky white head atop a slightly hazy copper colored beer. Big pear, banana, malt aroma. Nice malty beer with some good fruit character thanks to the yeast. Hops are light...moderately sweet finish, but bitterness shows up...Actually the sweet palate cuts to dry & lingering bitter at the finish...deceptive. Pretty stellar beer. Nice malt dimension and hops seem to pop out more as I linger over it...the spicy character really starts to shine. This one surprised me...I expected it to like Bink Blonde or Lucifer...but this is big & hoppy. Good.

Fantastic aroma of yeast and dry fruit. Much more intense than usual for a blonde. Great ale.
