COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Duysters Brewery may well be the smallest commercial brewery in Belgium - annual production of both its beers is only about 650 cases. Loterbol is a crisp blonde ale that is very tasty and mightily satisfying. It drinks much stronger than its 6.8% alcohol by volume would suggest, and tastes a little spicy, though no spices are used in the brewing. The exotic palate of this beer comes from the unique strain of yeast. Duysters Brewery flourishes in the shadow of one of the world’s largest breweries, Interbrew, in the nearby town of Leuven. But there is no mistaking this exquisite hand-crafted brew for the mass-product of the nearby beer factory. ‘Loterbol’ is a Flemish word for a fool or prankster, an allusion to the deceptive smoothness and drinkability of this beer. Selected as one of the fifty best beers in the world by Men's Journal magazine, July 2005.

(Duysters Loterbol 8 Blond) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 8%. Clear body, pale orange in colour. Tall white head, thick, good retention. Light lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, light malts, apricots. Taste is a typical belgian ale, some apricot and peaches, light yeast and sugar, some light floral notes as well. Good bitterness on the aftertaste. Medium thin body, good carbonation, Not bad, although nothing special.

Thnx to kane. Pours rather unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is yeasty. Taste is bit bitter, malty, slightly sweet undertone, natural malts and fruity yeast. Aftertaste is yeasty. Nice one!

Peach blonde ale tasted when the brewery was still Duysters. Unfortunately the sample I had, was an old one: no more head worth mentioning and strong maderisation. The honeyish and spicy basic character was still obvious enough - and in fact it had aged graciously. Now time to re-rate this as a young beer...

Shared with benny at my home. Clear goldblond colored beer with medium white head and lots of carbonation. Hopped fruited and a bit spicy aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is sweet spicy hopped ending a bit dry.

Het ruikt zoals een tripel en hij smaakt licht bitter. Een mooie donker blonde kleur.

Pours a large frothy white head that mostly diminishes. Body is hazy yellow with sparkles visible. Aroma contains moerate malts (cookie, grain, caramel), light hops (flowers, citrus fruits), light yeasts (leather, earth) and banana, grape, raisin, apple, cassis, cinnamon and cola. Taste is light acidic, then light acidic and bitter followed by sweet, sweet and light acidic and finally bitter. Body is light to medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Crisp, fresh beer with lots of fruits and a dry bitter finish. Refreshing. Good one.
