4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, USA - FEB 23, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 15, 2005 750 mL capped bottle (best before 01 APR 2003, sampled 15 NOV 2005): very promising release of carbonation as I pry off the cap…small fluffy white head that quickly subsides into a thin, but persistent creamy head, fed by several consistent streams of bubbles. Effervescent yeasty aromatics with sweet, though slightly musty doughy biscuits and strong vanilla icing notes. The bright, clear yellow gold body turns bronze as I progress through the bottle. The body is full, with a wonderfully elegant and strong tingling carbonation. Sweet, vanilla icing coated sourdough flavours along side sour yeasts and musty pale malts. A bit more subtle and well rounded than my previous sample, but missing the surprise and onslaught…great in its own way. 8/4/8/5/17 – 4.2
[330 mL capped bottle, 2003 version: Deliah’s Chicago, (vintage beer tasting, Feb ‘04)]: Hazy straw with a starched white ring of head. . . large, almost ominous grapefruit aroma with interesting straw and wheat streaks. Astringent and bitter, but not over-powering until after wonderful sweet doughy yeast wraps the tongue; the only defense you have against this fabulous onslaught! 9/3/8/4/16 – 4.0
