A darker, slightly sweeter beer than its blond counterpart, Loterbol Bruin is a delicious strong Belgian ale, brewed in tiny batches at Belgium’s smallest brewery. Highly drinkable, even at 8% alcohol, this beer lives up to its name, which translates roughly to ’prankster.’ Unlike most Belgian beers of this strength, Loterbol Bruin is not loaded with candi sugar. It does not want for malty sweetness, but it is superbly balanced with enough hops to stand up to the high alcohol. A remarkable brew, if a difficult one to find . . . we bring in only about 60 cases a year.

(Duysters Loterbol Bruin) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 8% Deep mahogany brown colour on the body, tall and thick beige head, with very good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma has some spices, faint caramel, herbs. Nice taste, much more bitter than I expected, with some lemon-like notes, hops, again faint caramel and some toffee, some herbs, fresh grass, maybe some juniper berries. Medium body, good carbonation, mildly dry on the palate. Very good, nice surprise.

Dark brown with a large, quickly disappearing head. Flavour of hay, bubblegum, raisin, citrus. Very complex taste - more on the sweeter side. Very distinct and enjoyable.

- Alcoholpercentage van 8% - Smakelijk biertje destijds gedronken - Complimenten aan de brouwerij- en brouwmeester - Nog geen topper, maar wel de hoge waardering die verdiend is ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark chocolatey brown with a creamy head. Spicy, malty beer, very nice. Actually a very nice drop, reminiscent of Abbaye des Rocs. I could really get on with this.

Head is large, creamy, off-white and slowly diminishing. Body is brown, some sparkling is visible. Aroma contains loads of fruits (sweet and sour), spices, citrus fruits and brown sugar. Flavor is light acidic, then light sweet and light bitter and finish is bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. The flavors are surprising,it's a lot less sweet and more bitter then I expected. Lovely beer, well balanced.

Trying after the Duysters Drossaard. It has the same harsh bitterness in the back that I can’t get past. Again nice pour. Aroma here relatively neutral.

Tasted when it still had an ABV of 10%. Dark chestnut colour, beige, loose head, strong estery aroma of dark fruits, candi syrup, spices, yeasty and fruity taste with dark maltiness and even a roasted bitter accent in the finish. Scotch-type ale.
