Commercial Description:
A darker, slightly sweeter beer than its blond counterpart, Loterbol Bruin is a delicious strong Belgian ale, brewed in tiny batches at Belgium’s smallest brewery. Highly drinkable, even at 8% alcohol, this beer lives up to its name, which translates roughly to ’prankster.’ Unlike most Belgian beers of this strength, Loterbol Bruin is not loaded with candi sugar. It does not want for malty sweetness, but it is superbly balanced with enough hops to stand up to the high alcohol. A remarkable brew, if a difficult one to find . . . we bring in only about 60 cases a year.

The aroma is alcoholic, malty, and sweet. It is an unclear very dark brown beer with a beutiful light brown head. The flavor is fantastic; sweet, malty, and very complex with notes of figs, coffee and a acidic prickling. The finish is dry and a bit woody. A fantastic beer..

I tried this one in a 8%ABV version - which made the flavor less complex and therefore the overrating less. The ratings here are for the 10% ABV version.

(Bottle 33 cl) Unclear, dark brown with big, lumpy pieces of yeast. Lovely, brownish head that never collapses completely. Fresh, hoppy nose. Brilliant notes of roasted - no actually it’s burned - malt and some brown sugar. But the mouth feel is mainly dry with a very pronounced bitter finish. Very sophisticated. 230705

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy and dark brown with a huge tan head. Sweet caramel and mild fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet too, holds a nice light roasted malt flavour this providing a rather smooth caramelmalt impression. Light yeasty touch following and a mild bitterness going along into the finish. Lasting caramel malty finish. Nice one.

Bottled. Very dark ruby with small creamy head. Pleasant vinous aroma with notes of cherries, toffee and utter. Sweet and not overly malty with clean and rather hard mouthfeel. Salty finish with some grassy bitterness.

Bottle. Clear medium to dark red / brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate hoppy, grass, hop dry, light to moderate malty, roasted, spices - peppery ! Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to light, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Very nice. (211107)

Bottled. Dark ruby red colour, huge beige creamy head. Aroma is roasted coffee, toffee, caramel, slightly bready and alcoholic. Flavour is toffee, alcohol, chocolate some raisins and plum. Roasted malts and coffee come in as it gets warmer, as does the alcohol. Creamy palate, a bit empty in the finish and aftertaste, but wellworth the money!

Bottle. Malty, sweet aroma. Dark brown colour, big creamy semi-stable light brown head. Quite bitter and hop-aromatic flavour. Turning malty and finishing with OK bitterness.
