4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Got this in the closeout bin at Vaudree in Liege for 1e (can’t figure out why - - the date punched is July ’13). Zesty, bright fizzy texture like well-fermented apple cider, and then the hops hit hard & deep, and then a sourness kicks in, with just the slightest hint of sweetness (sweetness is why I mostly avoid brunes, but this is more a hoppy sour beer). Very lively on the palate - - it just dances all over the place. This is a super tasty and really fun beer. I wish I had bought the whole close-out binful (but I already had over 40 bottles to haul back in my luggage to Germany).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, yeast, raisins, caramel, fruity notes, nuts, some brown sugar and dark chocolate, a certain spicy note. Flavour is medium sweet with a surprisingly bitter finish. Medium bodied. Very nice, I like how the bitterness compliments the sweet flavour.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Zwart bier zonder schuim. Smaak is bitter, rookachtig met sporen van bittere chokolade en anijs. Is iets te waterig/licht om een echte topper te zijn. Smaak blijft wel lang hangen.

(Duysters Loterbol Bruin) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 8%
Deep mahogany brown colour on the body, tall and thick beige head, with very good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass.
Aroma has some spices, faint caramel, herbs.
Nice taste, much more bitter than I expected, with some lemon-like notes, hops, again faint caramel and some toffee, some herbs, fresh grass, maybe some juniper berries.
Medium body, good carbonation, mildly dry on the palate.
Very good, nice surprise.
