COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A darker, slightly sweeter beer than its blond counterpart, Loterbol Bruin is a delicious strong Belgian ale, brewed in tiny batches at Belgium’s smallest brewery. Highly drinkable, even at 8% alcohol, this beer lives up to its name, which translates roughly to ’prankster.’ Unlike most Belgian beers of this strength, Loterbol Bruin is not loaded with candi sugar. It does not want for malty sweetness, but it is superbly balanced with enough hops to stand up to the high alcohol. A remarkable brew, if a difficult one to find . . . we bring in only about 60 cases a year.

Loterbol bruin, 8%. Very dark brown coloured, beige head. Aroma of malt and molasses, gets better when warming up. Flavour is predominantly malty and sweet, lots of sugar. Ends very nice though, lingering malty finish. The flavour’s not impressive, but i have the feeling this beer could improve greatly with some ageing.

33cl different label, Bb 2013.

Bottle (2007)... Hazy brown ale with a mid-sized, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The rich aroma is of rich caramel and honey with woody brown sugar. Medium-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor offers caramel and candied date sweetness with plenty of bitterness for adequate balance. Finishes raisiny and caramely with a bit of dried plum. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

Bottle @ home. For the life of me, I can’t remember where the hell I got this. Reddish brown appearance with a very foamy, tan head. Fairly sweet, caramelized sugary, plum, raisin, red fruity aroma with moderate fruity esters. Dark plum, grape, fig, fruity, brown sugar, caramel, candy sugar flavor. Pretty sweet finish.

Chudwick (562) - Taylor Mill (KY), FRANCE - NOV 23, 2011
bottle in a pint glass - pours dark amber with beige head, providing lacing. Nose is yeast and prune-y fruit. Aroma is chocolate, nuts, light floral hops, alcohol, and old-time-y fruit. Taste is sweet at first and ends on a sweet note along with bitterness. Finish is suddenly dry and body is full. For 8% ABV, it seems stronger. Beer starts off promising, but partially falls apart due to the strong alcohol presence. Would not want to drink two back to back.

(bottle 10/26/10). Dark brown color. Large tan head. Moderate caramel aroma, with light fruit/apple and light sourness. Moderate bready malt and caramel flavor, with light sour and light toast/malt. Long duration. Light lasting sour and toast/malt finish. Slick/fizzy texture. Moderat to high carbonation. Good lacing.

Very dark toffee colored pour. Huge off-white head that is slow to die. Plenty of lacing left in its wake. A fruity grainy aroma. Like fruity pebbles. Very malty flavor. A slight fruitiness in there along with some yeast flavors. Slight alcohol heat, slight. A nice viscous mouthfeel. Sweet aftertaste with some alcohol mixed in to thin it out a bit. Nice beer. Much better than anticipated.
