Nice hazy golden body with moderate carbonation and a thin white foamy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy and brown sugar notes. Well balanced malty/hoppy taste with fruity hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Ends with a sharp and long sour finish. Very good!

Murky caramel poor with a nice light brown creamy head. Aromas of oak, humidity, green apples, herbal, floral, raspberries, ginger ale and a hint of caramel. WOW! Acid from the 3 fonteinen but incredibly balanced. Explosion of flavors and mouthfee;. Nice dry and sweet finish. Added flavors of pomegranate and rhubarb. 11 %???

Careful pour still leaves a very cloudy deep orange body. Solid, well retained but small frothy white head. Looks very earthy. Thin but mostly full coverage of lacing. At first nosing I think "honeyed blonde". Alcoholic notes abound but are muffled by exhuberant complexity. Definitely a one-of-a-kind aroma. The barnyard funk is still prominent, but here it’s mingling with sweet notes...an equal blend of funk and sugariness. Mild lemon, orange zest and delicate barrel ling are easy to pick up on as well. The flavor is big and forward. Highly tannic, excellent acidity and sourness that is cheek-tingling. Awesome taste. Some tropical fruit and cream mixed in around mid-mouthfeel. Sweet honey rounds out the taste, mixed into an herbal backnote. Very full bodied, creamy and tangy at the same time. Carbonation would be too high if not for the slick honey components. Incredibly interesting beer. Finishes very dry and thick feeling, with a touch of leather and must, sage and white pepper, with not even a hint of the high alcohol. Very well done.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Murky golden ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Terrific retention. The nose is a potent swirl of sharp cheese, wood, leather, horse blanket and lemon juice. The flavor provides extreme acidity and sourness, tempered by malt and aged hops, but not dismantled. Fruity with tart cherries. Full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Lengthy, pungent, dry finish. 11% alcohol? Well-disguised! Thanks to MartinT for giving me the bottle which was shared with boboski!

Comments: Surprising and multi-dimensional offering. Frighteningly sweet, yet managing a certain cohesion, certainly a success for generating interest for further research upon that path, but on its own, I didn’t find it more interesting than the sum of its parts.

schuimkroaat (410) - Leuven, BELGIUM - FEB 25, 2007
37.5 cl bottle, bottled ? Light amber coloured with lambic (strong citrus presence) dominating the aroma and the taste onset. Sweetishness, typical of a (very) strong ale, is in the background. Mocha (coffee) notes soon appear in a subtle but stubbornly persistent way, till deep into the aftertaste. The label states it is a blend of Loterbol (that should be 8 vol. % alc) and 3 Fonteinen lambic (5%). How do they reach 11% then? Simply by refermentation?

Bottle. Mouthfeel is a bit odd for me, but it didn’t let it down to much. Odd combinations of sour acidic lambic qualities and yeasty alcoholic tripel sweetness. Some caramel notes aswell. Interesting for sure.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2009 Aged 3 years:
The nose now honeyed and classy, the esters have seemingly subsided, and the flavor profile, while hot, is relatively balanced. Tartness increases drinkability. This took a while, but it’s much better at this age!

My Bottom Line:
Banana esters and bubblegummy phenols run into dusty yeast and hot alcohol; this is all over the board flavorwise. eccentricity-personified at this young age.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is plenty of froth atop the golden orange; a yeasty cosmos swirls under the admirable lacing.
-The fluffy carbonation helps drinkability.
-Fruitiness varies from banana to apple.
-Brown sugar is not quite offset by the haystack and tartness.
-The esters in the nose are disconcertingly reminiscent of Fruit Loops? Or maybe Pop Rocks candy?
-This is well-done, but it definitely needs to wisen up, imho.

Bottles; 2006 vintage.
