4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackEyePA (547) - USA - AUG 21, 2012
Nice! Color is hazy/muttled yeasty yellow orange. Aroma is funky off citrus. Taste is bubbly citrusy, musty orange/ lemon with a little clean grain in there. ?No hops really, just an earthy yeast covers it up. Palate is light effervescent malt with some acidity. Overall really nicely aged and great taste, kind of a blend of diff brews really layered well, great.

Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt!
The beer appears translucent and yellow hued, with several pockets of bubbles forming up into individuals schools. The head is thin and doesn’t linger too long before dissipating.
The aroma is bold and inviting. Smells of a tradition Belgian lambic: funky, musty, light citrus, wild yeast.
The flavor is good, with some tasty citrus notes, but doesn’t quite measure up to the piquant aroma. Though the taste brings plenty of musty, funky, tart flavors, it also has a present sweetness and alcohol flavor of which I am not accustomed when drinking lambic. The unusually high alcohol percentage is evident throughout, though it’s not a complete distraction.
The feel is thicker than is customary for the style. The beer finishes with a warming alcohol sensation.
Overall, an interesting, intriguing, and fun beer. I would definitely have it again. I’d really like to get a bottle of this and tuck it away in the cellar for an extended period of time.

Bottle, 08/06/2012. 2007 vintage. Pours golden, cider-like, slight haze, very little head that fades quickly. Aroma is lightly fruity, with apple, pear, turning tart, funky lambic finish, lemon zest, whiff of alcohol. In the mouth, tart apple and honey, yeast and funk, slight acidity, but boozy finish. Smooth, big-bodied for a lambic-like beer. Nice, this is a definite improvement over the last time I tried this a few years ago.

Bottle shared at RBSG 2012 Grand Tasting. Good aroma with lots of fruit and funk. Dry and fruity, sorta plain, tart but not sour, esters, funky barny/straw.

Thanks to Apanbosse for this unusual treat.
Nose is funky - earthy horseblankets, lactic sourness, and a touch of sweet sugar - quite nice.
Sadly, the taste doesn’t live up to the delicious aroma - it starts off tart but quickly slips into a peppery burnt sugar flavor with a touch of clove. Really unusual, and not bad - just kind of weird. Not at all what I expected. Also a touch of alcohol - not unexpected from a 10% beer. It’s fairly sticky and flat - could have used more carb. I’m glad I was able to try this, but doubt I’ll be on the lookout for more.

37.5cl (corked and caged) bottle poured into 3F geuze glass. Vintage: 2007. Apple juice amber. Zero head on vigorous pour. Smells of horseblanket, funk, must, lemon zest, cracked wheat and aged cheese. A decent nose, but it all goes downhill from here. The taste is quite empty and lacking any sort of substance/backbone. Mild hints of funk/must, but it simply tastes like sweet apple juice with a touch of lemon, dash of Belgian yeast, and loads of booze. Unpleasant and disappointing. I was really excited to try this beer, but I think it’s a big letdown. Smells good, but the taste doesn’t follow. I realize this is a blend of lambic and strong tripel-like blond topfermenting ale; however, it just wasn’t enjoyable at all.

Pours an apple juice color, maybe a bit darker, with an off white thin head. Light notes of dust and some leathery brett in the nose, spicy pepper and orange citrus in the back. A little sweeter in the flavor and less funk, still some dusty leathery brett but very faint. Overly sweet, zesty orange, very juicy with a light peppery spice and hop bitterness in the finish. Creamy feel, medium body, light carbonation.

Bottled.
Fruity and sour aroma. Light, a bit dull. Dusty. A sharp edge of alcohol, the strength pushes the beer off balance.
