skortila (4160) - Baarn, - JUL 29, 2007
Aroma of mainly lambic; horseblanket, some alcoholic fruity tones. Clear, golden coloured, with a short head. Taste is slightly sweet and tart, some orange in it, some applecider. Bit alcoholic. Quite dry finish. Weird mixture. Not really bad, but also a failed experiment I guess.

Bottle at Max’s. Hazy golden with a smalll fizzy white head. Nose is funky, lightly sweet, some lemon, and yeast. Flavor is similar though I wish it was a bit more funky.

Bottle shared at max’s for the turd tasting courtesy of Ryan, I believe. Pours a golden body with nice white creamy lacIng. Aroma is floral, bitter hop, vanilla, and fruit. Mouthfeel is carbonated and dry with notes of yeast, light fruit and funk.

Bottled. Fruity and sour aroma. Light, a bit dull. Dusty. A sharp edge of alcohol, the strength pushes the beer off balance.

Bottle shared at the NY Meet the TURD tasting. Pours a clear blonde. Aroma is slightly sour with lemon. Hay dryness with pine; minimal lemon peel presence. Shitty review but not a shitty beer.

Golden light hazy pour with hints of head. Bretty funked aroma. Flavor doesn’t follow lambic aroma. Sweet malty tones and some off tones.

From notes. 2009 375 mL caged and corked bottle. The cork pops out without much gusto. There does not seem to be much carbonation, from the way it comes out of the bottle and the utter lack of a head. The beer itself is a full and very hazy golden straw color. The aroma is only mildly tart, but lambic and gueuze standards. There is a soft malt base, with a musty mineral presence and a slight lemon zest edge. The flavor is slightly sweeter and more herbal than the lambics and gueuzes I have had. The slightly sweet honey biscuit malt front has a full chewiness to it that I don’t expect out of the style. It takes a little bit before the lemon zest and herbal musty notes shine through. The acidity that I would expect to accompany a beer like this just isn’t there. Without it, a strong mineral base is noticeable. It does not drink as heavy as the 10.5% ABV would suggest, but it definitely feels like the biggest body I have had in a lambic. Overall I thought this was an interesting experiment, but it does not crack into the ranks of the great Belgian sours.

0.375l corked bottle from etregourmet webshop. Interessting. This one pours a clouded bright orange body. Tons and tons of slushy dark sediments in the bottle, and the little white head quickly fades away in to near nothing. The aroma is some what subtle. Light tart-ish and kinda fruity actually with tones of white grapes, wood and a strange, but nice, hint of dry caramel. Interesting enough aroma. It has a really thin and watery texture, almost like drinking water, and a really soft carbonation level. On the border of being flat. Flavors are nice and light sour - not sour, but light sour, with woody and flowerish tones. Don’t care to much for the somewhat alcohol-yeasty finish, but the aftertaste is quite refreshing - perhaps a bit watery with hints of sour. What DA huck! Was this 10.5%?? Could never have guessed that. Extreme camouflaged, and a nice mix within two genres. 22.02.2012

375ml bottle thanks to exiled. Hazy deep golden brew, no head. Aromas of wet wood and tangerine. Very little carbonation with some cherry and citrus.

2007 vintage, corked and caged 375 ml bottle into a tulip glass. Bottle opened completely silently. Its interesting that they used drie fonteinen corks here. ABV on the bottle is listed as 10.5%. A - Light amber/dark yellow hazy body. There is no head to speak of, just some light bubbles form and lace the glass when given a swirl. Completely still. Bottom of the bottle was quite yeasty. S - Very gueuze like aroma. Bright lemons followed by some brett funk. Very earthy and tart with just a hint of saison like malt and spice. The finish is also a bit hot from the alcohol. T - Sour lemon, leather, sweaty sock, biscuity malt, and some belgian yeast and spices. This flavor profile is really subtle and tame, probably due to the thin body. Its pretty tasty, but I was expecting something as bit more intense and flavorful. Alcohol becomes noticeable as it warms up. Mouth feel is obviously flat, with a light to medium mouthfeel. O - A weird beer for sure. It has some aromas and flavors of a lambic with just some faint tripel notes in the finish. Its also way too boozy. I can drink flat and unblended lambic, but when its 11% abv it becomes a bit distracting. Not worth the price I paid for it.

Blending strong blond ale with lambic doesn’t always turn out very drinkable. In this case it turned out fabulous. Every bit of your palate is caressed. Aroma: citrus, green apples Appearance: golden color, minimal head, clear Taste: you get everything, except sweetness, perfectly balanced out. Palate: medium body, almost no carbonation, long warm finish.
