Bottle @ Spiesy’s gaff. This is one of the British beers that chris_o brought over. Dull murky aroma and flavour. Tingly bitter finish. Unremarkable.

Cask at Thurrock Beer Festival. Mahogny with an offwhite head. Sharp fruity aroma and hints of caramel. Fruitiness in the lead: apples and pear flavours. Enjoyable.

From keg at The Dove Street Inn, Ipswich 4 May 08. Dark brown colored. No head. Modest aroma of chocolate and coffee. Watery impression but hoppy notes. Too light to be a proper porter. Hardly any bitterness.

Half on cask at Dove Street Inn (4.2% ABV). Black-brownish body. Thin, off-white head. Aroma brings flashes of liquorice and chocolate malt. Mild roasted taste with coarse-grain and sweet chocolate. Bitter afternotes. Quite well bodied for its low strength (Ipswich, 04.05.2008).

Cask at GBBF 2007. A very dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and roasted malt - the roasted malt lending it a slight acidity combined with a slight note of berries. The flavor is sweet mlaty with light notes of roasted malt, berries and vegetables, leading to a slightly bitter and roasted finish. The mouthfeel is very smooth. Nice, but the body is thin.

Cask (Peterborough Beer Festival 2004) 4.2% Rich brown, small head. Roasted malt aroma. Sweet caramel malt, some chocolate, and a gentle hoppy taste. But that understates things - the taste was beautiful and exceptionally well balanced. Pleasant combo finish.

Bottle at LCRBM3. Hazy dark brown, no head. Decent malt, some caramel and good coffee and choc. Very drinkable, a bit like a choccy bitter. Easy drinking.
