Dark Blond color. Paper Lager, sweetish (honey simulation). Useless.

Amber colour. No aroma as it was served with a layer of ice on top. In Canada. In February. The flavour - even after it warmed - was light, clean and evenly balanced with light maltiness. Not much honey character, nor any other character for that matter. The least of the Rhinos.

On tap at Earl’s. Poured a clear amber with a short-lived cap of white head. Rich toffee, honey, and darker fruits in the nose... almost had a mild barleywine character to it... better than expected. The flavor was of sweet honey, caramel, and a floral/herbal bitterness... pretty well balanced. Light-bodied. Sweet caramel, honey, and mild bitterness in the short finish. Not bad.

I spoke with the George Cziglan, the operations manager at Kamloops Brewery and he confirmed that the Pin-Up beers are made by KB, and even though two of them share similar names to the Earl’s beers, they are brewed according to completely different recipes. I had this honey lager before going to a late movie around the corner. It is a deep clear amber brown with a dense off-white cap. It has a pleasing sweet caramel aroma. The flavour is of lightly roasted malt with a distinct honeyed sweetness (and I don’t ordinarily agree that there is anything honey-ish about most honey lagers) and a mildly bitter finish to balance it out. Served at a nice temperature too, so that you could really appreciate that this beer had some flavour. Not bad at all! I’d be interested in doing a side-byside tasting of this with it’s Earl’s cousin.

<This is my rating for the Pin-Up honey lager. I actually haven’t had Earl’s honey lager yet. Very light aroma is vaguely sweet and grainy. Clear dark golden body is topped by a low white head that recedes to ring. Sweet flavour with some grassy notes and light bitterness. Light body with somewhat low carbonation and watery texture. Sampled on tap at Earl’s in Winnipeg the day before Grey Cup.

A less expensive pint for macro drinkers at Earls/Joey Tomatoes. Not much else to recommend it. Drink the Winter Pudding instead. Yellow with minimal hops or honey.

(Draught) Sampled at Earl’s Restaurant on 16th Ave N in Calgary. Served in a frigid glass, the nose comes across as tonic and sweet as it warms. Minor hints of grainy malt with a small sampling of honey when you search for it. Oddly sweet and very watery. Not something I’d recommend unless true water isn’t available.

Pint on tap at the Earl’s Tin Palace location in Edmonton pours a pale golden color with a small white head that leaves very little lacing behind. Aroma is light grains and grass. Taste is a malty sweetness with a mild hop bitterness. A very uninspiring brew that I do not recommend to others.

Served in Earl’s Rhino pint glass. Pours orange. thin fine bubbled white head. Light grain aroma with a trace of honey. Flavour was slight honey/floral with some grainy malts behind. Dryish finish. Light body, lightly carbonated as well.

Light amber in colour with lots of carbonation. A little bit of sweet malt on the nose, but served too cold to get a really good sense of what was going on aromatically. Started off somewhat light and malty, but got very cloying on the finish. Somewhat vegital at the end as well. Not good... the Albino Rhino is much better (which isn’t saying all that much).
