On draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy yellow liquid gold with a medium white head. Aroma of bitterness, zesty hops and fresh yeast. Taste is bitter with hints of zesty lemon, hops and fresh yeast. A little citrusy in the aftertaste.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 puzzl (3093) - New York, New York, USA - MAR 23, 2009
Tap at the brewpub, the biggest surprise of the day in terms of quality. Hell, I thought Tom wanted to never brew with hops again, yet he absolutely nails a big hoppy pils. Sweet. Great doughty aroma, saazy, spritzy, spicy. Similarly doughy flavor wiht a fresh saaz bite. Very dry and crisp. Balanced and drinkable, very solid, with a great Belgian character to it. The hell is with that name, though..?
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 chronictonic (437) - Oreland, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 22, 2009
poured a bright straw gold with a firm white head. aroma was mostly on the sweet side with some butterscotch. flavor is sweet but with substantial banana clove flavors. we both immediately thought it was a saison, not a pilsner - and sure enough, they did have a saison on tap. We ordered a saison and that was different, so this one was what was labeled on the board as a pils (interesting here that it’s listed as a european strong lager). Even then, imho too much of the belgian flavors, not enough of the noble hops.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JoeMcPhee (6966) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 18, 2009
Tap at the brewpub. Pale straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is lightly straw-like with a soft herbal/grassy hoppiness. There is a lovely soft spicy hop flavour over a really nice bready maltiness. Soft and very well-balanced with a lovely crackery and lightly sulfury pils malt base and loads of fresh zesty lemony hoppiness. Very, very nice pils… the best I’ve had in awhile, and perfect for this unseasonably warm day.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 blipp (3920) - Newark, New Jersey, USA - MAR 16, 2009
Draft at the brewpub. Pours golden yellow with a white head. Sweet malt aroma, with straw/grass, and a hint of hops. The flavor is hoppier than the aroma, both floral and grassy, and has a solid backing of toasty malts and caramel. Not bad.
3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 egajdzis (4587) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2009
Poured a cloudy golden color with a small, white head that left very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of toffee malts, toast, light honey, floral hops, grass, and a bit of citrus. Taste of toasted malts, toffee, earthy yeast, citrus, honey, grass, and a fair amount of alcohol in the finish.
