COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
I took your year-round favorite, Big Hop IPA and did a little something special to it to celebrate the September hop harvest. There’s a small window where I can get fresh-picked, undried, green, hops to toss into the kettle, and I jumped on it. These “wet hops” provide a truly unique flavor and aroma, almost like the smell of freshly cut grass – if your lawn was completely planted with American hops! Available starting in October and lasting until it’s all gone.

Growler shared by CMUBEERMAN. Red caramel, off white head, with floating chunks of hops. Aroma is candied: malt, caramel, and hops. Flavor is vegetable (perhaps due to the hops), hops, malt, and caramel. Quite unique.

Goodness gracious! I was definitely not expecting this. In fact, I haven’t tasted anything like it. What a unique wholesome, bready, satisfying beverage. I’m going to get a growler tonight.

Deep copper color with minimal head. Nice citrus and earthy hop aroma. Well balanced, pleasant hop character. An excellent IPA.

Poured into a pint glass. Growler poured a mere hour ago at the brewery. 4.0 A: Hazy brownish-orange copper color. One finger of creamy white head with average retention and modest lacing. 4.5 S: Wow. What an elegant mix of grassy and herbal hops with a touch of citrus. One of the best smelling IPAs I’ve ever had, which is saying something. Malts add a noticeable sweetness from crystal malts. If it were a bit stronger, this would have been an easy 5. 4.0 T: First thought was: Is this an IPA? No, it isn’t, but it’s a damn tasty APA. Very fruity, but not so much citrusy. Rather it’s peach and apricot heavy, then orange. Formitable bitterness which works well with a touch of crystal sweetness. 4.0 M: Medium body. Good creaminess and ultra smooth, but could use a touch more carbonation, especially since this is basically straight from the tap. 4.0 D: Very good beer all-around. Tasty and easy to put down. It probably wasn’t worth the price of $13 for the growler fill, but it satisfied my beer drinking needs and I don’t mind shelling out a couple extra bucks for the little guy. On draft at Sharp Edge Brasserie. Poured copper with bubbly white head. Flavor consisted of fruity citrus tones with a touch of grass and pine. Just a bit thin. Not a bad offering though.

I had this on draft at Mad Mex and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice beer with good hopping that was not too bitter.

2010 Growler from East End just released today. Poured a cloudy lighter copper color with a pillowy white head that clung to the glass producing nice lace. Fresh ’wet hops’ were added to the growler and subsequently the glass. This beer oozed of fresh hop with grass, citrus, and pine. On palate this is a crisp, hoppy beer that has a tendency towards a vegetal taste. The finish is short making you want more.

A- Hazy golden bronze body with small off-white head. Head fades quickly and no lacing or collar is left behind. Head retention is somewhat disappointing; but I love a cloudiness this thick in an IPA. S- wow is this beer fresh! Lots of pine and citrus hop aromas with a solid caramel malt background. T- Upfront is a big balance of citrus and pine hop flavor with a subtle caramel malt background and very little bitterness. The finish is all pine hop flavor. A big refreshing dose of piny cascade hops take over and make a nice clean-yet wet-finish. Nothing lingers on the palate. P- Medium carbonation and smooth body. Not very oily. Goes down easy. O- Its a shame this beer is a seasonal. The fresh hops make a world of difference here and it is delicious. Luckily, I live in the Pittsburgh area and can enjoy this one every time it comes around. Growler from brewery: Thanks to the brewer who sold me some beer even though I wasn’t there during their growler hours!! This one pours a hazy orangish color. There was a fair amount of a beige head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is decent: plenty of hops to the nose. Mainly piney, but some earthy notes also. The taste is also quite good. A nice medium body, with lots of pine and grapefruit hop flavors. Given the taste and aroma I expected this to be more bitter, but it is very drinkable. Quite nice.

Sampled on draft at the Map Room in Regent Square this beer poured a dark orange-caramel color with a large orange-beige head that lingered. The aroma was strong sweet fruity hops with a light peppery undertone. The flavor was strong sweet fruity hops, tangy malts and hints of caramel and nut. The finish was long, tangy, sweet and full of fruity hops. Not very bitter despite the impressive hop presence. Fairly full bodied. Very nice.
