COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Hop IPA – the first of the brews from Pittsburgh’s newest and MICRO-est microbrewery to hit the streets. Truly, a hopped-up American IPA with loads of Centennial and Cascade hops, and just barely enough malt backbone to balance it out. Our flagship brew.

On tap at the Map Room. Dark amber body with off-white head. Nice floral hop aroma. Flavor starts off with some sweet caramel malt with a cool, crisp finish consisting of pine, floral hops, and some grapefruit. IPA is not my favorite style but this is quite enjoyable.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 Out of the tap it pours cloudy yellow orange at the Bocktown Bar in the Robinson mall shopping center. Nice hoppy floral aroma. Has some bubbles arising but it does not qualify as lacing. Pretty hoppy taste but not as an IPA of DIPA. Flavor is a little weak compared to other IPAs and I think that may be a benefit since I don’t really care for IPA bitter lingering beers. However, the finish is bitterness that builds as the resolution continues. This is a little better than your typical IPA but for the style, I think IPA lovers may find this without offense. Best IPA I’ve tasted.

Growler acquired in trade with lukin013 (thanks!). Poured a deeper and murky orange color with a huge sized off white head. Lots of lacing left on the glass. Aromas of pine, citrus, and caramel. Tastes of pine, citrus (oranges and grapefruit), and caramel. Sugary sweet with a nice bitter balance. Nice hop presence with a malty balance. The only bad side is the body was on the thin side.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler. Pours a lightly hazy golden orange with a large foamy off white head that left tons of lacing. Aroma of orange, light pine and other various citrus with a nice caramel malt balance. Flavor of an up front bitterness followed by pez candy, citrus, pine and more bitterness at the end that creeps back in. Lots of fresh/dry hop flavor.

Not a very good IPA. Had on draft at Sharp Edge Creekhouse (but I won’t hold it against them). This tasted like a stale version of the greats. It poured a delicious malt colored brown with a soapy head. But looks can be deceiving. The best way to describe the taste was hollow. It had the hoppy bitterness to it but nothing in between to balance it out. I expect more from my home town gosh darnit.

Draft at Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh. Pours amber with white head. Faint citrusy hop aroma. Medium light texture. Initial flavor of britishesque toffee maltiness, but grapefruity hops take center stage. The bitterness carries through to the finish, along with some soapiness. The hop profile combined with the thin malt backbone did not really suit my personal tastes. But kudos for being hoppy

On tap at Roland’s Landing. Hazy copper. Frothy off-white head. Light hop aroma. Not much. Stale caramel malt and light old orange hops in flavor. Okay, but not too interesting.

Poured from a growler, thanks Taffurs888. Nice Floral aroma, very floral with lots of grapefruit notes. Drinkable, citrusy IPA, Not crazy on the IBU’s but definitely citrusy and floral/.
