COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Raised in an almost cruel state of total darkness, our Black Strap Stout delights in being the complete opposite of a light beer. This one has full-flavor, full-depth, full-life, and of course full-carb. See it brought squinting into the light for the very first time in your glass. The humane thing to do is finish the pint before the protective head burns off.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2007 On tap. Dark brown black with slightly greenish tan head. Aroma is faint molasses, port, smoke. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, molasses, grass, smoked ham, grass, anise. Quite oily body with lingering bitterness. This actually stained one of my skirts and one of my purses. Oops! Battle scars I guess :)

Sampled from a growler provided by jasonm from BA - thanks, Jason!!! Dark and inky on the pour, with a vibrant cafe au lait head and some impressive carbonation. The aroma is really splendid, with huge notes of molasses and licorice to complement the standard malts one might find in a stout like this. Some intense roasting in there, very nice with a body this full, giving it a creamy coffee character. Some tobacco on the finish, very nice indeed.

Good stout. Very pretty black pour with a big long lasting head. Flavor is smoky malt with a very dry finish.

Appearance-Black body with beautiful dark tan head Smell- very strong of chocolate and coffee P- Chocolate dominates the taste with a background of coffee O-the beer has a medium body mouthfeel which was surprising for the powerful smell and taste that this has Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 03-13-2007 04:11:42

From a growler served in a shaker glass. Shared by the oh so generous TheCaptain. Thanks Mark. This was a really interesting beer, it had an imperial stout-lite kind of vibe to it. It poured like used motor oil with a brown head. It even left a brown oily looking residue on the inside of the growler. It had all of the character of an imperial stout, just not as in-your-face as most RIS. The smell/taste was chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and a light charred character. Very nice.

Poured into a pint glass. Got a growler of this at Rick’s in Murraysville. 4.0 A: Dark as night in color. Barely a finger of creamy tan head with average retention and minimal lacing. I think some of the carbonation escaped from the growler. 4.5 S: Lots of coffee, molasses, and dark chocolate. Seems to be a decent amount of bitterness. Very good smell. 4.0 T: Lots of burnt flavors going on. Dark roasted bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and a healthy smokiness. Good, but the mouthfeel is distracting. 3.0 M: Light body, mainly due to low carbonation. Smooth, but not creamy. Need to get some better carbonated beer. 4.0 D: I like this beer a lot. I’ll need to get another growler straight from East End and give it a proper review. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 10-20-2009 02:27:20

On keg at the Craft Beer Co. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, liquorice, caramel, alcohol and a little smoke. Similar flavours. Mildly bitter with moderate carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Alcohol is fairly present with a dry finish.

Draft at the Beer Trmple. Black pour with massive brown head. Roasted aroma with chocolate, malt and coffee. Flavour of dark chocolate, roasted malts and a little dark fruit. Medium to low carbonation and medium body. Very good considering the low ABV for the style.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2007 Pours a dark black color with a small brown head. Aroma of coffee beans and chocolate. Taste of coffee, and the bottom layer of a dairy queen ice cream cake. Thin body is the only complaint here!

Beer No. 91 on my tour through Austria, Germany and Denmark.
On tap at Mikkeller bar, Copenhagen. Courtesy of and shared with Papsoe (thanks a lot!) Pitch black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, roasty nose with hint of mold. Roasted malt, dark chocolate and light licorice with whiff of smoke in the finish. Nice stout.
