Growler courtesy of Nate. Pours a dark opaque amber color with a small beige slight fizz, but not much on the way of head. The aroma has a bit of a sour cherry scent with a sweet bready yeast character. The flavor is pretty sour and bitter. Started kind of plain, but the flavors came out a little more as it warmed. The yeast and caramel came out. There was never really a sweetness of cherries, but it definitely came out in the sour. The body was kind of thick, but I would have actually liked a little bit more carb.

Poured from a growler into my Duvel tulip glass. A- Murky muddy brown body that pours with a two finger or so creamy off-white head that quickly subsides to a thick collar and retains well from there. Traces of lacing left all the way down the glass. S-Nose is somewhat faint and full of spiciness a bready yeast, tartness, and a hint of dark cherry. T-Flavor has a nice complexity to it. Upfront is a good bit of tartness and cinnamon spiciness along with a hint of deep, almost woody cherry, and a substantial biscuty yeast backbone. The finish is more tart than the initial flavor and a burst of cherry flavor (not overpowering) comes out from beneath it all. What lingers is a hint of yeast and tartness. P-Low to medium carbonation and a thick biscuty-almost grainy body. O- This i a very nice dubbel Very rich, tart, and complex flavors. The cherry has a nice tasteful presence that compliments the character of this beer and doesn’t go too far from a traditional dubbel but still offers something different. Edit 9/24/08 I adjusted my scores. My initial review was a bit harsh and was from a top of the growler glass. The biscuty presence is very well hidden and a smoother yeast settles below this. 10/6/08 - Growler pour courtesy of Naka. Pours brown with red hues. Tan head. Nose of butter, brown sugar, caramel and mild cherry. Taste is mild butter with caramel and brown sugar. There is a mild cherry sour throughout. Pretty dry with a mild to moderate bitter. Decent.

UPDATED: OCT 6, 2008 I filled this growler yesterday at the brewery. It has a big thick layer of sediment on the bottom, certainly not filtered and I like it cloudy that way. Pour is the same, a thick swirling cloudy almost chunky opague brown. No head but on the second fill I get a thin head. On the third pour it foams over onto the counter. Some black cherry aroma but mostly a tart olfactory prevails. Initially on the palate it seems a little bitter but thats because I am sensitive to higher alky brews. For 7+% it hides its alky content well and has the feeling of better more refined dubbels from belgie. Much better than most coarse american dubbels. Very nice creamy texture on the tongue and I like those tingly sparkling sensations. Even tho it is a little strong for me as a session brew, it remains refreshing and interesting none the less. Not sure if I can taste cherries at this moment but it is tasty and fun. The only thing I don’t really care for is the strength of this brew’s personality. It comes across like the cherry grizzette but with balls. I really like most of the session brews from EE but this one may perhaps have a bit more personality than I care for. Very enjoyable and different. Would be perfect if it was a little less alky but it wouldn’t be a dubbel then would it? Come to think of it, in the second and third glass I think I’m getting some cherry or fruit in there now. Dizzying effect. Yep, cherry grizzette on steriods. Finish is a tad medicinal but most of you will love this one, go for it before its gone, thanks Scott! Another unique beer from an exceptional local nano brewery.

From growler. Has a mild sweet caramel malt sweet nose, underscored by a rich black cherry fruity character. A subtle but persistent fruit flavor rather than a fresh tart one. Some pretty musky esters, too, like fruity coffee. Medium brown-ruby in color, cloudy, with a thin off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with fairly high carbonation; certainly foamed up during the growler fill. Starts fruity with ripe black cherry, mild caramel malt sweetness, and light chalky bitterness. Not a huge hop presence here, but well balanced. Fruit character persists throughout. Finish is fairly bitter, with a medium heavy bitter coating on the tongue. After is light cherry flavor and mildly sweet.

Poured a hazy orangish yellow color with a white head. Aroma was mainly of some belgian spices and sour cherries. Flavor was a bit thin, some spices and yeasty flavor with a hint of sour cherries, but not overpowering. Pretty decent stuff
