Growler from brewery. Dark brown with reddish hints and a smallish tan head. Aroma mostly of dried fruits (raisins, figs, dates) and some cloves. A little thin on the palette. Lots of raisins in the flavor, with a somewhat overpowering sugary, caramel sweetness.

Enjoyed via draft. Appearance is accurate for the style - dark with a slightly off-white head. Nose and palate were good, but not in line with the best examples of the style. Probably the best beer from this otherwise unexceptional brewery.

Had a sample of this at the brewery and was coming home to rerate and saw I never rated this is the first place. This is a great dubbel. This used to be my favorite style and this beer reminds me why. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel and brown sugar. Pour was a medium brown with a nice 3 finger tan head. Taste was a tad vinuous with strong raisin, yeast and caramel/molasses in the front and a warming aftertaste. Great beer.

Shared at the Cleveland tasting. Not sure who brought it. Sorry! I love the name! Very clever. I just love belgians these days and I find it hard not to like any of them. Pour was brown/amber. Smelled like plums. Taste was sweet caramel, raisins, bananas. Pretty decent!

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 Oh yes, oh yes, this stuff is cool right from the start! Mildly fruity fragrance, that comes across mouth watering. Attractive dark brown with an alabaster head. Very good tingly carbonation without being excessive. Taste is rather unique and enjoyable, a very nice beer that is fun and friendly. I really enjoyed this brew, even more than the monkey boy. This beer is a good example of a true Belgian dubbel, unlike so many other american Belgie dubbels, this stuff is really refined and does justice for the style. Way too often I am insulted by american brews that are classified on this site as a dubbel but then I find out they are just high alky brews that are terribly medicinal bitter and let their alky show thru. Nice one Scott! This really hides it’s alky content well! Would never know this is above 5%! East End is a pro when it comes to making brews that can be easily classified as session. Borders on Corsendonk Pater and Bornum Dubbel!

From growler. Funky sweet with caramel and a bit of sour mash. Banana and yeasty hits, clove. Mild overall hoppiness. Dark amber hazy with thin off-white lacing head. Medium bodied, with medium carbonation. Starts with raisin and fig, brown and/or candi sugar. Hints of funky sour mash or that fruity sour tang from raisins. Banana and some light bubblegum. A sweet finish with a mild bitter and nutty after. Nice dubbel but a bit too sweet for my preference.

Growler from East End. Poured brownish amber in color with a medium tan head. Aroma is of cinnamon and dark fruits. Taste is of raisons, cinnamon, spices, caramel malts and a bit bready with the yeast. The finish shows the presence of spices but comes across a little on the thin side. Not bad.

Pours a murky brownish color. Aroma of vinegarous fruit and spices. Flavor is a bit sour fruitiness with hints of spices, but a bit watery.
