COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern English style Nut Brown Ale with a bit of chocolate character to it. Dark in color, but light in body, and leaning toward the sweet malty side. You'll really have to look for the hops in this one.

Cask @ Zenoís. Brown, no head. Mild nose of chocolate malt and bread, but itís extremely faint and very bland smelling so itís difficult to judge this one at all. Sadly the flavor isnít any better - weak, pallid, empty, with a watery texture as well. Disappointing.

Cask @ Zenoís. Pours a slightly watery, dark brown color; minimal head with a perimeter of medium-sized bubbles. Basic tea and wet malts in the aroma; not a lot here at all. Basic, watery malts and a slight tea-like astringency; again, reserved and watery throughout; very bland brown. Medium finish, which shows more flavor than the rest of this: chocolate, saltine crackers, and some lingering tea.

Sampled during Growler Hours. Pours a slightly hazy amber brown. A good roasty nose with a little bit of hazelnut and sweetness. Taste has some malt and toffee flavor. Like most others have said, it is kind of flat and, thus, lacks a little bit of body. Decent, but not great.

Pours a hazy brown color. Aroma of mainly of nuts and maltiness. Tastes is very nutty with some caramel/chocolate flavor. Pretty thin, but good for a "session beer"

Amber colored with minimal off-white head. Aroma of caramelly malt, nuts, some toffee. Flat taste with heavy maltiness coupled with mid-palate nutty notes and some mild tobaccoey hints.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2009 ***Rerate*** Tried this again on tap at Bocktown. Big difference here was the awesome carbonation this beer had. It was very lively and while not much flavor, it was a bit better. Original rating: 8/9/07 AR6 AP2 FL5 P2 OA15- Total 3.0 On draft at Bocktown. This would have been much better if it had more carbonation. Aroma of roasted malt. Pour was a flat dark brown with no head. Taste was very malty with some roastiness and nut flavor. Nice mouthfeel but had little to no carbonation. Carbonation would have helped this beer along.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2012 Sampled on draft this beer poured a mahogany color with a medium sized light brown head. The aroma was malty, roasty and bitter. The flavor was bitter, roasty and nutty malt mix with very subtle hops and a hint of smoke underneath.

At the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, nuts, and a touch of caramel. Flavor is of mostly malts with some light hops. On the thin side for a brown ale.

At the brewery. Hazy brown color, off white head. Aroma is hoppy and wheaty, slight caramel. Flavor is the same with that signature earthiness and a bit nutty, but Iím not really impressed with this beer. Itís on the watery side. Out of all of Scottís beer, I probably like this the least.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2012 New rating: Had this on tap and from a growler, much better than I thought originally, has a more refined attitude and goes down oh so very nice - good job scott improving this brew! old rating: Oops, somebody at the Bocktown got this tap handle mixed up with Corsendonk, Corsendonk Pater (Abbey Brown Ale)-----Unbelievable bargain! Pleasantly flat. No, seriously, this is like Corsendonk with all the complexities, but much better in price. Definately top of the style.
