Tried this again on tap at Bocktown. Big difference here was the awesome carbonation this beer had. It was very lively and while not much flavor, it was a bit better.
Original rating: 8/9/07 AR6 AP2 FL5 P2 OA15- Total 3.0
On draft at Bocktown. This would have been much better if it had more carbonation. Aroma of roasted malt. Pour was a flat dark brown with no head. Taste was very malty with some roastiness and nut flavor. Nice mouthfeel but had little to no carbonation. Carbonation would have helped this beer along.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2012 Sampled on draft this beer poured a mahogany color with a medium sized light brown head. The aroma was malty, roasty and bitter. The flavor was bitter, roasty and nutty malt mix with very subtle hops and a hint of smoke underneath.

At the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, nuts, and a touch of caramel. Flavor is of mostly malts with some light hops. On the thin side for a brown ale.

At the brewery. Hazy brown color, off white head. Aroma is hoppy and wheaty, slight caramel. Flavor is the same with that signature earthiness and a bit nutty, but I’m not really impressed with this beer. It’s on the watery side. Out of all of Scott’s beer, I probably like this the least.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2012 New rating: Had this on tap and from a growler, much better than I thought originally, has a more refined attitude and goes down oh so very nice - good job scott improving this brew! old rating: Oops, somebody at the Bocktown got this tap handle mixed up with Corsendonk, Corsendonk Pater (Abbey Brown Ale)-----Unbelievable bargain! Pleasantly flat. No, seriously, this is like Corsendonk with all the complexities, but much better in price. Definately top of the style.

On tap at the Map Room. Dark brown body with tan head. Aroma is very earthy... dirt and nuts. Flavor is incredibly malty... mostly toasted malt and nuts. A slight metallic taste and lack of complexity are the biggest downfalls, but very easy to drink.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nate (3326) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 17, 2006
Sampled at State College BrewExpo. Dark brown ale with little head. Has a mild, dry bitter aroma and hard to tell if from the hops or some odd dusty grain aromatics. Nice malty taste with light bitter hops. Mild nutty finish and after, with watery overall body. Decent, but not one of the better brown ales.

06 State College Brew Expo. Pours a brownish golden with a bubbly tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, nut, toasted malt and not much hops at all. Flavors of the same...still no hops :)
