4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUL 11, 2006
HWOH 750 ml. Brought by the head brewer of East End. Thanks for bringing this! Pours a clear deep copper/light amber with a white lasting head and some nice lacing. Aromas of caramel, fruity esters, a bit hot in the alcohol, some spiced rum and medium hoppiness. Flavor is sweet, rum, light crystal malts, dried fruits and light brown sugar. Alcohol is noticed slightly most of the wya through, but it was very smooth, complex and should age very well due to the strength.

Poured a hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of port, green apples, grapes and toffee malts, with caramel and light alcohol as well. Taste of sweet caramel and dried fruits, with some nuttiness, and light smoke as well. Alcohol in the finish.

Lightly hazed copper colored liquid. Small, but appropriate head. Floor malt and mild hopsack aromas. Seems quite traditional. Caramel and malt start thing out in a big way. Some mild fruit and hints of floral come just as the heat picks up in the back of the mouth and throat. Quite drinkable now, but would likely be much better in a year or so.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2007 Bottle sampled on 2/26/07: Smooth, sweet caramel malty and lightly fruity aroma. Full, viscous, sweet caramel malty flavor has good light fruity esters and complexity with a warming finish. Seems to have aged fairly well.
Bottle shared by 1FastSTi at the 3/25/06 MIlwaukee tasting: Pours a clear copper bronze with a nicely-lacing tan head. Very bready yeasty toasty caramel aroma has a good fresh mild English hoppy character. Starts with sweet viscous caramel malty flavor with lots of warming alcohol toward the finish. Needs some time to age, but could be real nice in a few years.

Thank you Blake for bringing this to the party! Bottle #525/600. Poured a deeper shade of caramel with a tall beige head. Soft, yet rich caramel, dark fruity malts, and fresh spring floral grace the nose. Flavor was quite heavy on the fruity and caramel maltage, with complementary floral bitters and some bright alcohol. Rich feel on the palate... with a smooth, malty middle, crisp floral surrounding, and an alcoholly-effervescence. Great brew and dangerously-drinkable.

Hazy, murky caramel and orangish-brown in color with a tiny off-white overlay for the head. Sweet cherry toffee prevails, met with sweet perfumey hops, lilacs, lavender and caramel. Bitter hops press upon the tongue’s sides. Amarillo sentiments tingle and sweeten. Melting caramel chews provide a flavorful backbone. Some margarine runoff on the palate, but the flan-like sweetness keeps its head above water. Thanks for sharing, Blake!
