Bottle with Vin and Bill, courtesy of Bill. I believe it was an ’08. Nose of raisin, cherry, toffee, caramel, some hops. Sweet with a boozy sherry-like flavor. Top notch barley wine.

2009 Bottle. Aroma is full of light dried fruit. Raisin and dried cherry with some plum. A light smokiness and some sherry. Moderate caramel notes and hints of toffee and vanilla. Pours a really nice ruby and burnt amber with a thick light tan head. Light lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor is full of nice sweet caramel and dried fruit. Lots of sherry and grape notes. Fruit is raisin and cherry. Moderate light bitterness. A bit on the oxidized side. Some alcohol spice in the finish. A bit of astringency. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Medium astringency with medium high alcohol warmth. Finishes a bit on the thin side. Overall not bad, but on the lighter malt side for a Barleywine. Very fruity and fairly oxidized. The malt character is starting to disappear. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle of the 2007 yellow wax. Pours a hazy straw yellow with no head. Aroma was a malty mess with corn taking over. Corn husk as well. Taste, flat and very much like a bland IPA that had been cellared for some time. Some more sugar apparent to let you know this isn’t an old IPA but still this was likely a lot better fresh.

2007 bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a thin off white head. The aroma is sweet caramel malts, dark fruit, more malt with a mild woody note. The flavor is also very malt forward showcasing caramel and toffee. Additional big ripe dark fruits, some wood and a surprising amount of bite to this. Even after sitting a bit this still had some heat. Overall, pretty tasty but I’m not sure it is worth all the trouble to acquire.

2009 Vintage Pours a deep reddish brown with a huge bubbly beige head that persists forever. Upon first pour I and assaulted with aromas of tropical fruits. Upon closer inspection I get lots of toffee, brown sugar, caramel, and dark dried fruits with a hint of alcohol and a faint bit of earthy hop. The flavor is smooth and sweet with just enough ethanol and earthy to provide some balance. Flavors of caramel and brown sugar with a hint of chocolate mixed with cherries, and plums go down quite smooth. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet syrupy bubbly mouthfeel. This is a very nice barleywine, I wish I could try it a bit fresher, but I quite enjoyed this aged version today.

750 indigo wax thanks to a past Secret Santa on Ratebeer. Murky brown color that shocked at first. But the taste is super smooth. Fruity. Caramel. Toffee. Alcohol not intense. I may be able to do this bottle alone after all. Very nice.
