2005, thanks to David! I’ve had many a vintage of Gratitude, but never 2005 until now, and I must say the beer has aged remarkably well. Firstly, there was still "ample" carbonation by the standards of a Barley Wine, even a fresh one. The oxidation is definitely less than you’d expect of a typical BW bottling, but gives a nice sherry characteristic to things without any of the watery texture issues. Slightly chestnutty with lots of interesting sweet fruit notes and a hint of leathery character. Excellent, beautiful beer. It’s a shame I’ll almost certainly never get to drink it again, but in my experiences basically every batch of this beer ages well. So grateful (hehehe get it?) to have tried this.

Bottle, 2008 vintage. Red/copper liquid with minimal off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, caramel, toffee, port wine and dried fruit. Quite complex. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, toffee, plums and sweet alcohol. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Really viscous and sticky. Great barley wine, very balanced and complex.

2010 750ml shared by Brad. Glowing orange body. Oily head, soapy edges. Oaky, big woody malt tones. Rich caramel tones, but not overly sticky. A really great Barleywine. Awesome to see a non-barrel aged beer this good. Massive yet balanced.

Poured from a bottle (forget which year it was) in a tasting glass. Pours cloudy brown/ruby with a beige head. Aroma of caramel and toffee and light chocolate from the malts, some dough, and a little bitterness. Flavor the same with a nice malty character. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

2007 Yellow wax...Pours amber/ruby with no head. Aroma has slightly boozy notes of candied fruit and earthy/woodiness. Flavor is slightly oxidized but not too much...nice candied fruit and earthy hops/woodiness. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and the finish is warming. Shame its oxidized.

2013 bottle, shared with Mac, 09/22/2013. Pours muddy reddish brown, light creamy head rests on the surface, thin ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is sweet apple caramel, dried golden raisin, soft hoppy pine, dark bready toffee, hint of roast and chocolate to balance. Taste is sweet caramel, light fruit and raisin, chocolate toffee, pleasant hop bite with lingering bitterness. Medium thick body, smooth, fairly drinkable even this fresh. Great barley wine.

2013 bottle. Pours a hazy reddish amber with a dissipating soapy head that becomes fine. The aroma is of sweet carmel malts, butter toffee, booze, fruit and spice notes from the hops. In the flavor I noticed the sweet carmel malts, butter taste, bitterness, and booze. The finish was of malts, booze, bitterness, and a nice dryness. Overall this hit my palate but did so pleasantly.
