Pours black with some mocha head and good lacing. Smells like dark, bitter chocolate. Medium consistency. Finishes a little bitter, but good. Well-balanced though not super original. Bottle thanks to Sammy.

Bottle with Simon and Keith, pours black with medium coffee head, lots of tony bubbles and sticky lacing streaks. Aromas and flavor of carboard, plastic, gouda cheese, graham, coffee, chocolate, and roast. Sticky palate with a char finish. More of a porter.

2012 bottle from artmcd8. The pour is black in color with a big firm frothy mocha head. Nice lacing on the glass after each sip. The aroma consists of; ashy notes, lots of chocolate, roasted malt, a slight dark fruit character, and faint whiffs of bourbon. The flavor uncovers a mild earthy hop component with a lot of mocha/dark chocolaty notes. Thereís chocolaty sweetness throughout with a touch of caramel. The bourbon is hardly noticed but itís there to add another element to an already good beer. Deep down thereís some creamy vanilla that pairs well with the chocolate and what bourbon is there. Very tasty stuff. I like the level of drinkability too.

2012 bottle aged in Markers Mark Bourbon barrels. A good carbonated beverage that forms a well liked head in my glass. The aroma is very rich with roasted malts. There is a minimal chocolate and sweet bourbon undertone in the scent. As for flavor I noticed dark malts, hops, faint bourbon, and chocolate flavors. The roasted malts are tasty but a little too potent. I was impressed by the pleasant hop flavor in this beverage. The Homewood leaves a malt and hop aftertaste with a mild bitterness. My palate was impacted mildly as well. Overall I really enjoyed this drink. A very fine beverage.

2011 bottle...pours black with ruby hues and a medium mocha head...good retention and lacing. Aroma has dark fruit and oak atop smoothe bourbon and faint vanilla...mildly boozy. Flavor has burnt wood notes and molasses...slight oak and very faint bourbon. Mouthfeel is medium and fairly lively with a roasty/oaky slightly nutty lingering finish.

2010 bottle. some sour mash-type flavors here. Not infected or anything but something I have noticed in some bourbon beers. thin body, coffee, some burnt & roasted notes. easy-drinking and balanced.

1L swing-top growler, 2011 vintage, courtesy of Beerman6686. thanks again, Dan! opens with a pleasant hiss and pours beautifully, much denser and rich than i expected, and sits deep, tar-black in the glass capped by a creamy, dark cocoa head that leaves drips of lace. aroma is great with rich, toasted oak, molasses, dark chocolate, and bourbon up front with subtle notes of vanilla, raisins, nutmeg, and maple as it warms. flavor is damn nice, maybe a bit of a let-down from the aroma though, with rich, smoked malts, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and a hint of sweet molasses that transitions to dark fruits, oak, and bourbon on the back end. palate is smooth and full bodied but just a touch over-carbonated with a toasted, bourbon-esque finish. overall, a damn nice barrel aged stout.
