COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Six local artists have conspired with this local brewery to bring you Illustration Ale, a limited edition, 700 bottle run of a one-time East End brew. Each bottle bears handiwork of one of the six different artists who contributed to this project, and two bucks from the sale of each bottle will go directly to Pittsburgh’s very own Toonseum! Illustration Ale is a bottle conditioned beer, with a rich dark malt character, spicy and nuanced, but without any actual spices added. That all comes from careful handling of our Farmhouse ale yeast. If you decide not to frame this bottle, you can carefully remove the label and return it to the brewery to collect your deposit. Or better still, bring it back and put it toward your next liquid art purchase.

Swing top bottle. Pours dark brown w 1finger off-white head. Nose is dark malt, spicy yeast, fig, earthy brown sugar, a bit dunkleweissy. Tastes of malt, brown sugar, fig, plum, caramel, spicy esters, hops. Pretty complex, and a unique twist on this style, and I come away feeling like this one is a dunkleweiss and strong ale hybrid.

Bottle thanks to london1o1, shared at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured a dark brown with opaque edges and a light brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma had a decent amount of spice joined by sweet dark grains, dates and raisins. Flavor was full of dark fruits with caramel, dark grains and a strong spice back bone.
