Draft from the brewery. I’m always torn about this one. It’s just not quite what I’m looking for in a hefeweizen, seems to be a tad high in alcohol and tending more towards a weizenbock in my general opinion. It is straight up hefeweizen in pour and appearance, but the cloves, herbs, and again alcohol just come on a bit strong in my opinion.

Multiple pints served from a 1/2 barrel at reception at Pittsburgh Glass Center. Poured hazy yellow with fluffy white head. Bananas and clove flavor. Rather thick and yeasty.

Hazy golden color in the glass with minimal head. Smooth mouthfeel, nice wheat notes with a hint of citrus and spice.

Ruddy brownish orange. From growler. Big spice, clove, banana, and grassy hops in the aroma. Flavor is nutty and grainy. Brings a nice english element to the german hefe. Still retains the clove and dried banana chip. Good

Tap at Al’s Of Hampden. Pretty sick restaurant and bottle shop combined that is crawling with BeerAdvocates. I asked the bartender/cashier guy twice if he poured me the correct beer and he was adamant. So, this hefeweizen poured totally clear straw with no head. Okay so maybe its a kristalweizen. Nope, nose is all white grape juice. Taste is suddy, watery, completely void. Terrible. Honestly, East End needs to call Al’s of Hampden and see what is up because something is very amiss on somebody’s end.

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of banana, wheat, fruit, and slight bubblegum. Poured yellow in color with a small, white head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of wheat, fruit, grain, and banana. Light to medium body. Thin, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Wheat, banana, grain finish is dry.

On draft at Capones. Pours a very cloudy yellow gray with a medium sized frosty white head. Aroma of watery cloves, banana, wheat, bubble gum, and light spice. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy, milky straw yellow color with a thin white head. Aroma of grain/yeast, banana, citrus and spice. Flavor is full and lively with lots of bread, citrus and spice. A bit more carbonated than most. Not bad.

On tap at the brewery. Hazy stray gold/orange, with frothy white head. Banana, wheat, spice, orange peel, banana, pepper, and yeast. A really nice hefe. Refreshing, easy drinking, and fairly complex.

A- Nearly opaque straw yellow body with a creamy white head. Retention is good and plenty of lacing sticks all the way down the glass. Body is uniform in cloudiness. S- Nose is big and heavy with loads of banana, clove, and pepper. T- A boatload of banana, clove, and pepper upfront, with a substantial (though barely noticeable due to the strength of the flavors upfront) sweet yeast backbone. The banana fades a little bit and the spices come out strong for the finish. P- Carbonation is high and body is smooth and yeasty. O- This is definitely not an average run-of-the-mill hefe. It is a hefe on steroids. Great spring session beer (though I wish it was offered year-round). It quickly has become one of my favorite beers. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 08-04-2008 18:43:29
