UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 Had this on cask at Piper’s Pub, nice place. Nice looking dark brown unhazy beer. Has a nifty woody or leather aroma unlike any other brew I’ve rated, quite attractive. Has Thin creamy head. Normally, I don’t care for cask beers, but I think I found a cask beer I can really enjoy. Drew, the owner, said that many places don’t age cask beers properly and by the taste of this, I must agree. It even has a small anmount of welcomed carbonation that I never felt in a cask beer! This beer is friendly and interesting. Very good flavors with no betterness at all. Lovely session brew. Great job Scott @ East End, you are the king of session brews as far as I’m concerned. My only regret about this beer is that I missed having it on regular tap over at the brewery, I bet it was delicious under normal tap carbonation and I bet it would have added at least a full point to my score. Finishes like a gentleman. Best cask beer I’ve ever tasted.

Pours a murky dark brown color with a large off white head. Aroma is matly and caramel. Flavor is malty and nutty with the strange sourish bitterness all east end brews have.

Growler pour courtesy of Naka. Pours dark brown with a one finger head, light khaki and dissipating to a film quickly. super malty nose with slight fruit, raisin and apple. Nice caramel taste with mild bitter, fruity cherry and apple. slightly watery. Decent 80 shilling.

A growler from the brewery. Had this one as Session 14. We have come full circle. Pours a very dark brown color with a 1/2 finger medium beige color. The aroma of dark molasses and a smoky nuttiness. The flavor has a little bit of vanilla and woody characteristics. A lot of nutty (hazelnut?) brown sugar and caramel. There is a slight dark fruit characteristic as well. Smooth flavor and body. Very little carb, making it kind of watery, but a decent creamy body.

Sample from growler courtesy of Naka. Light grain sourness with underlying sweet malt, a bit of caramel like a mild bitter or scottish, maybe even a watery brown. Light fruity hops with quite a grain tea and tannin smell. Just a touch of smoky character. Dark brown hazy with thin off-white thin lacing head. Medium-light bodied, with medium carbonation. Starts fairly sweet, though watery, with mild caramel, a bit of grainy wort, mild tannic fruitiness and a light bitter character. Definitely a low alcohol session beer, but does have quite a nice flavor. Hard to tell, if not told, whether it’s a weak brown or a scottish, but I can say it’s enjoyable. Fairly clean towards the finish, with a bit of fruity tang and light bitterness. After is weakly sweet and a bit nutty. Nice session ale.

I had this awhile back at the brewery. Poured a light scotch colored brown with a white head. Aroma was toffee, caramel, and roasted malts. Taste was lightly sweet with malt and candy. Mouthfeel was very light and lowly carbonated...would make a great session ale.

From Growler

Poured medium brown. Nice bubbly white head. Aroma of caramel, malts. Flavor sweet (caramel, toffee), malts, honey. Slight bitterness as it warmed. More of the sweetness present as it warmed as well. Medium to full bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. Perfect to drink all night!
