3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dmtroyer (430) - Pittsburgh, USA - JAN 14, 2009
Growler from the brewery. Pours a lovely black with a dense tan head. Offers up some lovely perfume of roasted coffee malts. Body follows suit with a bit of cocoa and a dry, surprisingly hoppy finish. I would agree this is a bit on the simple side for a stout, I probably would have guessed it was a porter had I tasted it blind.

From growler courtesy of Nate. Pours black with khaki head. Semi-sweet nose of caramel with smoked beef jerky and roasted malt. Nice body with lots of astringent smoke, slight roast and mild caramel and chocolate. Medium-watery body. Tasty stout
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nate (3093) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 24, 2009
From growler. Sweet nose with toasted grain and light molasses. Has a nice sweet smell with mild grassy hops. Light chocolate and a bit of coffee. Dark black clear with a thin tan head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts fairly dry with roasted grain, chocolate and coffee bitterness and mild molasses. Sweetness dulls at the finish leaving a nice hoppy-nutty bitter finish. Good note of sweet malt in the after.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Naka (642) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 19, 2009
Courtesy of Nate from a growler. Pours really dark brown color with a small tan head that is gone quickly but leaves some rimming. Dark malts, molasses, coffee, and slight sweetness in the nose. Flavor has a very, VERY dry character with a nice roasted note. Almost a hint of raspberry in it. A very nice body. Medium carbonation and very rich. Very drinkable.

Poured a nice black color with a tan head. Aroma was nice and roasted, but basic. Flavor was rich and full of roasted malts, and some coffee, not sweetness to be found. An excellent drystout that made me think again about this style.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2008 EE#17 S7L5T8F3O17 dry stout - One of Scott’s East End fine session brews. Sampled at the brewery and from a growler. Fastidious roasty aroma, just the right amount of olfactory. Fine-looking blackish pour with a classy creamy head. One of the best looking beers from a growler in recent history. Kind friendly taste leaves hidden burnt wood sensations persistent on the palate. Good carbonation for a mild ale of this nature. Well mannered and easy going. Great stuff from a session beer expert, enjoyable. Will drink another of this. Leaves me content. One of the best cheap dark session beers Ive ever had!
