3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Naka (642) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 10, 2010
Pours a dark copper color with a trace of fizz. Aroma is bananas, some clove, and a bit of spiced apple cider. The flavor is not as sweet as I expected. Carbonation is very light, but that might be because they were having some issues with the regulator with this beer vs.the rest of their taps. A lot of apple skin character to the flavor, but some hints of roasted bitterness sneak in at the end. Supprisingly dry. Medium body that would be helped out by a little carb. Decent, but not as good as some of their other offerings.

Sampled on draft at Johnny’s Wife’s Place II this beer poured a dark brown color with a small beige head that lingered. The aroma was tangy with notes of banana and cloves. The flavor was tart and bitter with toasted caramel, banana, clove and nut. The finish was long with caramel. Moderately full body. Nice.

On tap at Bocktown. Kind of weak considering how great Monkey Boy is. Aroma was OK. Light banana and toasted malt. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan ring for a head. Taste just wasn’t there and now looking at the name the next day and realize that this is an East End Session which makes more sense. The toasted malt is up front but missing is the banana/clove flavors I was hoping for. Light carbonation and not much aftertaste.
