Growler. Slightly hazy orange with medium white, aerated head. Smokey and meaty aroma with some spice. Flavor of smoke, grease, and tropical fruit. Interesting.

Growler. Pours a pale body with a fizzy white head. Huge smoked tones but in and odd manner, comes across more like foul urine and a salty bacon note. Really strong smoked malt, a bit acidic and strong, little warmth. The aroma turned me off.

Growler; thanks Alex!! lock & load; pours clear light orange with thin white head; smoked cookies with stale malt and light smoke; orange peels, crackers, stale lemons; very light overall with faint smoked malt and lemons; light, grainy texture; very light and drinkable; kind of like smoked fruit juice to me

A decent smoked ale sample at Penn Microbrewer’s fest. Not as in your face smokey as the Smokestack Porter which was disappointing, but a good one nonetheless. Aroma was a faint smoke with a hint of beef jerky. Pour was a nice enough medium gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was mostly very malty with some grass, stale hops and the pillow of smoke coming up in the aftertaste. Not too big as to scare away someone from the style, but big enough to keep us "smokies" happy. Decent carbonation rounds the beer off.

Growler shared by RiversideAK- thanks Alex. Pours a mostly clear copper color with a small white head. The aroma is mostly lighter smoke and meaty notes. The flavor though is more of a all-out assault of smoke and meaty smokiness. Pretty one sided I guess, but still very nice.

Big meaty smokey nose, grassy nose. Hazy orange golden, thin foqamy head. Flavors of smoked meat, salt, earth, ashy, light grass. Clean, light, easy to drink. Nice.

Body is a nearly transparent straw yellow. Pours with a decent head which fades quickly. That doesn’t matter because the nose is rather strong and offers a lot of smokiness. A smokiness that is a lot like smoked sausage on the grill or something of the like. A light presence of hops is also there. Flavor is much like the nose with a pretty big smoked meat flavor upfront and a very light malt backbone. A moderate to big kick of hops comes through for the finish that is not bitter but refreshing. A little bit of smokiness and hop flavors linger. Mouthfeel is very light-but not thin or watery-carbonation is pretty high. All these put together make for a great, drinkable brew. This would be the perfect Summer BBQ brew because its light bodied, sessionable, smokey, and refreshing. I really enjoyed it. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 04-26-2010 15:19:31

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2010 On tap and from growler. Transparent golden-amber, thing cream bubbles for a head. Nose is smoke heavy, some faint malt showing. Flavor is similarly singular with a blast of smoke and faint roasted malt. A thin, rather watery smoke, but this lager is incredibly drinkable which is nice given how smoked this is. I watched a handful of beer geeks balk after a sip. Being a smoke junky, I almost drank their leftover samples.
