From growler. Jet black, fluffy tan foam that fades rather slowly and leaves outstanding lace. Aroma is slightly mineral, some crystal and roasted malts and a hint of cocoa. Lots of malt going on, crystal up front, chocolate mid palate, maybe a hint of actual cocoa in the finish with some light roast coffee notes. Almost no note of cherry other than a slight acidity and I’m 124% ok with that.

I had this at the bocktown monaca and let me tell you, it was much better than expected. I was thinking with the time since I really had a good EE and the present, perhaps commerciallity got the best of them but this is GOOD. Really nice black pour, what a beauty! Has mild sour cherry smelling choco moose looking head. Yummy roasted slight choco cherry olfactory. Initial taste bud impressions is milder roasted stout with a cherry ghost. Quite enjoyable. Mild and friendly, feels like an old friend! Mild sizzling co2 makes this interesting. Lacing like a thin bikini. Easy to like and easy to finsh. Goes down way too easy; heh! Its gone! Balderdash, lets get a real big pitcher of this. Lovely. My accolades to the brewers of EE!.

Poured into a pint glass. 4.5 A: Pitch black color. Nearly two fingers of creamy dark tan head that retains well and leaves plenty of lacing. 4.0 S: Mixture of dark malts and chocolate. The biggest aroma is definitely semi-sweet chocolate, followed by sweet milk chocolate, caramel malts, and roastiness. There’s also the East End yeast aroma that seems to be in a lot of their beers. Not hugely complex, but not simple either and pleasant throughout. 4.0 T: Not as roasty or as sweet as I would have expected based on the nose. In fact, it’s rather dry. Chocolate flavor is there without the chocolate sweetness (if that makes any sense) and has a sourish twang to it. There is a decent amount of roastiness in there, but the crystal malt sweetness seems to get lost. 3.5 M: Lighter body. Carbonation is good. Could be creamier, but is really smooth. 3.5 D: Good beer, but I like stouts with heavier bodies. The taste is fine for how dry it is and the aroma is good too, but I prefer something more viscous. From growler. Light cocoa powder aroma, with a very mild cherry undertone. Mild carbonic gaseousness, and neutral hop bitterness. Bit of charred malt, smoke. Very, very black opaque, with huge foamy dark tan-cocoa lacing head. Medium watery body with medium-light carbonation. Starts semi-sweet with a nice hit of chocolate, roasted barley, and a wee bit of cherry flavor. Light hoppy bitterness, but nowhere near the house bitternes level. Light tang in the finish, semi-dry with a bit of astringency. Dry nutty bitter after.

This poured a dark brown almost black color with a light brown head. Aroma was light chocolate, roasted malts and some sour cherry notes as well. Flavor was nice very well rounded chocolate notes some thin roasted coffee, and noticable sour cherries, but they do not dominate by any means.
