COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
aka the Big Pour Brew. If you’re curious about Sour Beers, and wondering what all the fuss is about, this is an excellent way to start to explore this wild category of beer. We brewed this beer using a 3-Day "Sour Mash", where we mash-in half of the grain and let it sit and naturally sour for THREE DAYS. Then, we run that off into the kettle, clean out the mash-tun, and mash the rest of the grain for a more normal 1.5 hours, bringing the runnings from the two halves back together in the kettle. Brewing a beer this way sure stinks up the joint, but the rewards are worth it: a light, crisp, tart beer with a bright citrusy sourness that is almost champagne-like in it’s finish... That is, it’s almost like champagne, but it’s BETTER.

Poured into a pint glass. 4.0 A: Hazed faint yellow color. Not too far off from water in the color. Two and a half fingers of creamy white froth with good retention and plenty of lacing. 3.5 S: More musty than sour. In fact, a lot more musty than sour, I can barely tell there’s any in here. I do, however, get some diaper and musky basement. Crisp graininess with a touch of lemon 4.0 T: The taste offers more in the way of sourness. A slight lactic bite is there, but the funky mustiness is a bit weaker. Big on graininess again, clean, and crisp. 4.0 M: Light body. Good spritzy carbonation. Super smooth. I know the style is light bodied, but I’d like a bit more than what is given. 4.5 D: I could drink this all day. Goes down like water, but tastes much better. Sour Mash Berliner Weisse? Sounds Awesome!!! I’m going to make one!!! This tastes decidedly less sour than other beers in this style that I’ve tried (presumably ones that don’t use a sour mash) but that is likely due to the interesting and strong notes of apricot in the flavor, and to some extent the aroma. Pours pale, pale gold, like bud light. Very little head or hops. I was originally turned off by the apricot flavors, but as I drank it, these subsided, and more of that tart wheat came out. Lovely!

Growler thanks to london101, shared with others, thanks! Porued a clear pale gold with visible heavy carbonation and a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had nice tart fruit with some kumquat coming through and a light sweet grain backing and a bit of champagne yeast. Flavor had light tart fruit with grapes, peach and kumquat coming through with a light grain backing and a champagne quality as well. Bubbles present on the tongue.

Pours yellow with fizzy head. Bready, lemon nose. Mild, mild sour, dry champagne-esque flavor, kind of lacking something in the middle, but good and drinkable.

Growler pour thanks to Kan. Chardony color with a thin head. Dirty funky earthy aromas with a little sweetness coming through over time. Citrus bright flavors balance with a simple tartness and a slight earthiness around the edges. This one grew on me 7/3/7/3/14

From growler. Interesting nose here - it’s a mix of sour mash wheat and nice hoppy classic German pils. Light lemon peel and a hint of pilsener malt sweetness. Pale golden straw clear with light haze, topped with thin white lacing head. Light watery body with light-medium carbonation. Starts tart with nice carbonic-citric bite, not puckeringly tart, but quenching. Mild sour wheat taste with medium hop bitterness. Acidic carbonic water tang. Not exactly a traditional Berliner weisse - not as sour. But very drinkable and quenching.

The aroma is a bit sweet and bready. The apprearance of clear cold urine with a foamy head. The flavor starts a bit zesty and then a nice sourness comes to settle smoothly on the palate.

East end session #44 weiss this beer sour. Growler fill from a recent trade... Pours hazy with golden pale hue and a medium fluffy white head... Aroma is a fair bit grainy with a little bread and a touch of lemony tartness in the finish... Flavors are a bit of an improvement with tart grains upfront and finishes with a mild sweetness. Light and refreshing. 7/4/7/4/15
