COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We checked the gift registry, and appliances are appropriate for our Fourth Anniversary. This beer is an Imperial version of our Black Strap Stout, this time brewed with MORE blackstrap molasses and MORE brown sugar, plus a whole lot more malt and hops too. Part of our FESTIVAL OF DARKNESS and certainly the thickest, darkest, most viscous beer we’ve ever brewed. We’ll brew it again just as soon as we have another 4th Anniversary. Or hey, maybe on the 5th anniversary of our 4th anniversary.

Brewed for East End’s 4th and 9th anniversaries.

Bottle. Black with a small mocha head. The aroma has slight booze, roasted malt, and banana bread. The taste is chocolate, sweet bread, and roasted malts. The mouthfeel is rich, creamy, and a little syrupy. Really good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Jet black with a thin mocha head. Aroma is lactic with banana and chocolate. Taste follows suit but adds an enormous portion of roasted/charred malt. Lots of molasses and a hint of marshmallow. Thick sticky mouthfeel with little carb. Really good.

Bottle thanks to Beerman6686. Pours black oil with mocha brown head. Nose and taste of molasses, burnt brown sugar, black licorice, roast chocolate, coffee, dank resinous hops and vanilla. Full bodied.

9th Anniversary Bottle. Pours jet black with a thick, sticky, and mocha colored foam head. The aroma is of dominating roasted malts, mild chocolate, smoked notes, and a noticeable sugary scent. In tasting I noticed bitter cocoa, molasses, roasty rauch like malts, light licorice, a weak dry finish, and there was a defined hop flavor/bitterness. Overall this was a pleasant smoked stout and worth trying.

Bottle shared thanks to charule. Pours a deep dark black with a brown colored head that dissipates to a foam. Aroma of chocolate sand roasted malts. Tastes like bitter dark chocolate. Thick and oily. Well done east end.

Fliptop bottle @ our annual Christmas night bottle share... Poured pitch black with a thin, light brown head. Nose had some peat, metallic smoke and worty malt. Thick viscous. Peaty and smokey. Way unbalanced. Bitter and astringent with a sharp wood tone. A savory soy sauce tone came in too. Not for me. Aroma was the best thing about it.

Big ol’ bottle. Poured thick, inky black with a very dark brown head.. looked great in the glass. The aroma picked up a helluva lot of licorice, with lesser soy sauce, dark fruit, and smoky black malts.. some oxidation showed. The flavor found a heavy core with more licorice, soy sauce, and burnt, odd, lightly-smoked black malts.. quite salty.. this didn’t do it for me. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. slick across the middle.. tacky in the end.. just OK overall.

Huge inky black pour w/ a tall brown head and some thick lacing. Some light smoke toasty notes I want to smell burnt toast almost and something a tiny bit bitter with hints of chocolate. Thick well coated palate. Taste has something just off to it. I wanted to say lactose and some burnt coffee touches of sour. Not very good.

Thanks to the guy who shared this at the tasting last night. I don’t want to use the word "toast" to describe this beer, but regardless of the name, it really does have an excellent toasted bread flavor to it. Heavy on the roast malts, with chocolate to add some sweetness to it. A part of it reminds me of KtG. Really good beer and still in good form after being a couple years old.
