COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Ross family grows Red and Golden Delicious, McIntosh, and Spartan apples, blending the juices before fermentation. A little fresh juice goes back in at the end to enhance aromas and flavours. Ross Hard Apple Cider is uniquely Canadian, made not in the English tradition but the East Kelowna tradition in the making. It's all very much a hands-on, cottage-industry operation: apples are crushed by hand; pulp is bagged in nylon sacks that are placed in six ordinary household washing machines. Two minutes on the spin cycle separates juice from residue. Juice is settled and cleared and then fermentation begins.

(341ml bottle) Purchased in Oak Bay (Victoria) for $3.65. Pours a light, clear off-golden body with minute bubbles and sediment. Nose is very much like Mystique from Quebec: sweet, tonic and slightly creamy. Flavour is perfectly balanced between sugars and tartedness. I really like this cider.

Bottle, Six Acres
Fairly clear colour. Apple nose with light alcohol. Sweetish, clean, light apple. Refreshing, albeit slightly sugary finish.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2005 Visited the cidery a week before the big fire of ’03 and saw all their rustic setup including the adjusted washing machines. It was a neat setup. The cider itself pours a pleasant gold with a healthy apple whiff. The flavour is smooth and lingers on the tonque, a little sweeter than some might prefer. I remember the lady said they wanted to produce a cider that "people could drink six of." I’d say the’ve reached that plateau.
