Cask (gravity dispense) at the Bricklayers Arms Yorkshire beer festival, February 2009. Really dark. Loose but lasting head. Loads of malt in the aroma, some smoky notes. Good firm chocolate flavour. Good firm, but subtle, bitterness. Really good stuff.

Cask at Bricklayers Arms Yorskhire Festival 09. Black, lasting beige head. Attractive choccy beer. Lovely smoke, bonfire smokiness, rich and full in mouth. Excellent rich, dark fruit beer. Dark jammy plums and blackberry. Good dry roast finish. Superb. Beer of the festival for me.

A Mes rate: gravicask at the Bricklayers Arms.
Cloudy black brown with a thin beige head. Awesome coffee, liquorice, fruity malt, inky, rubbery, excellent all round. Gread body, superb dry bitter finish. Perfectly pitched mouthfeel. Once again, excellent all round.

Cask at Bricklayers Arms Yorskhire Festival, 27th Feb 2009. Dark, close to black. Foamy head. Good flavours of chocolate, dark malt and cold coffee but it’s a little thin and this lets it down somewhat.

Cask at the bricklayers arms beer fest. Burnt malts, slightly plasticy yeast character, noteably bitter. Not a hottie.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Northamptonshire BF. A black beer with an off-white head. The aroma has chocolate and roasted malts together with a little fruitiness. The taste is fruity and roasty with coffee notes. A nice porter.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Initial hops in this menacing, black brew, then a crazy, hardcore, bitter and ashy charcoal finish. Thin in the mouth, and the over-the-top aftertaste is almost unpleasant.

Cask - gravity (Huddersfield BF 2004): Dark reddish brown appearance. Roasted malt and cream aroma. Smooth oatmeal like flavor, dry, roasted coffee finish.
