Very dark brown color with just a bit of red shining through to make it brown instead of black. The nose is alcohol and a little fruit. A smokey roast is also evident in the nose with just a touch of fudgeyness towards the back of the aroma. The body is thick with malt which is slightly sweet, but not reaching cloy. Some bitter maltiness in the middle and a touch of bitter hops at the end. Nice long flavors here. Comes together well, not perfectly though and lacking a bit.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2003 Very dark mahogany. Sweet, molasses, pears. Thick malts, toffee, brown sugar. Long, dry woody note. Seems lighter than last time I had it. Even amongst Polish porters, this tastes the most Polish. Not the best example of the substyle, but maybe the truest.
