Nuneaton ’Spoons (fresh on, served with a cloudiness warning). Not the listed version, but a 5% version that can be safely dispensed by the pint measure in the highstreets of Britain. Orange haze swirled with white. Woody, Hefe-like toffee and banana aroma with an enticing gust of Belgian yeast. Overly saccharine banoffee-flavoured ladybeer, undoubtedly, but with enough yeasty banana and clove character to render it drinkable. Wouldn’t want to drink more than a half, mind.

A Mes rate: cask at Victoria ’Sporks.
Didn’t realise this had a listing so it has just sent me rummaging through old notebooks. Had this while waiting for a train to take us down to Kent. Not much different to the bottle 8% version to be honest. Hazy golden brown with a thin white head. As with the Belgian version it’s sickly sweet and overwhelmingly speculoos biscuity. Some gingerbread notes too. Shared a half and that was about all I could manage but I really like speculoos so it was tolerable at least.

Handpulled cask at JDW Stanmore, during their recent international beer fest. Hazy amber with very little head. Smells like hoegarden with more sugary spices. Tastes overwhelmingly sweet and sickly. It does tast of cookies but has little merit as a beer.

[cask at Back of Beyond, Reading - 5% version] Smells like hooegarden with spice, taste like a white beer at first but a sweet sickly flavour soon overtakes everything else - yes its like a cookie dissolved in white beer, but this is nothing to be proud of

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading - 5% ABV Well this is certainly something different. Hazy amber with a white head; aroma has sour fruit and yeast - very Belgian in style; sweet and chewy, rich and buttery body with complex flavours - cookie spices, apricot jam, chocolate chips and slightly doughy; spicy and warming finish. Unusual, worht trying, but probably only once.

Cask in the sir john moore. Aroma is sweet biscuity malts, some fake hind of honey sweetness. Taste is a similar bag of tricks which totally didnt do it for me.

Cask handpull at Victoria ’Sporks. Not sure what to expect. Gold colour, slight haze, thin beige head. It’s a doughy Belgian blond, with Belgian yeast and rose petal fruit on aroma with this dough/biscuit edge. Better than I expected given the only other Ultra been I’ve had is the vimto fruit beer. Slightly sweet standard Belgain blond.

Cask at JDW ... Hazy yellow ... thin foam head ... sweet belgian hop ... very sweet lots of belgian fruity hop ... Definitly a little cookie ... some breadyness ... little lemon spice... but in the end just a bit too sweet though i could easily savour a pint of this.
