Bottle, Red Zebra, Derby. Somewhat hazy recollection of this effort, as the last beer of a good session, but I don’t think anything truly memorable happened here. Dark brown and somewhat excessively sweet were my enduring and only memories.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 CapedBrewsader (266) - Brasschaat, BELGIUM - JAN 9, 2009
33cl bottle at home: Slight gusher. Cloudy dark chestnut beer with a small yellowed-tan head. Heavy spice aroma. A cross between gingerbread and chai tea. Deep, but subdued, dark molasses plays well with the over gingered gingerbread. Cinnamon, clove, cardamom, etc. All the winter spices you can think of. Aroma is quite nice. Ginger fades but is easily stirred back up. Light muddled malt character on the nose too. Once tasted I am quite qurprised by the upfront sugar sweetness. It wasn’t so apparent on the nose. Spice is possibly even bigger here as well. Definite cinnamon kicked through with an odd molasses, maple, and tea leaf. Carbonation is not heavy but it really gets you in the back of the throat. Medium body but overly sweet finish. Some earthy spicy bitterness is present but it gets pushed out by the syrupy sugar. Interesting beer with a nice aroma.. perhaps a full glass is too much though.
