3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Bottled) Very dark reddish brown with a quite large, foamy and tanned, lacy head. Very interesting, syrupy and mildly tart aroma of balsamico, cardamom, maple syrup and some yeast. Very sweet, port-wineous flavor with lots of maple syrup. Roasty, slightly ashy malt in the aftertaste. Syrupy-sweet, vinous, foamy-carbonated palate. An interesting experiment, but too sweet to be enjoyable. In very small doses as a dessert, maybe...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Chestnut-colored and hazy, with a large, collapsing beige head. Spices, cardamom and ginger me thinks, yeast, apples and some cherry notes in the aroma. The flavor is sweet and gingery, with some alcohol and sugar. Sticky and maybe a bit too thin body. Long spicy finish that leaves me with the Christmas feeling. (060823)

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle (La Loubecoise Brune, from Utobeer): Darker brown in colour, with a huge, ever-expanding tan head. Ruby hue too. Great looking beer. Aroma of prunes, raisins, yeasty bread and blended spices. Sweetish flavour with a strong cinnamon and ginger finish. Ginger is a tad off putting, doesn’t blend in well. Medium-full bodied feel. Smells great but the flavour lets it down.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled. A very dark brown beer with a lovely big thick long-lasting tan coloured head, and good lacing. The aroma is full of cinnamon together with sweet sugars and a little yeast. The taste is also spicy and full bodied, but it is oh so sweet. It has the Ecaussines character but with a ton of sugar cane thrown in. Very nice at the first taste but soon becomes tough going.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown, big frothy head. Pear drups and a hint of roast in the aroma. Caramel and ginger in the flavor. A touch of sourness. They should have warned me on the label. I don’t like ginger. Nevertheless a sweet, but fairly well made beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy dark amber color. Good mix of spices in the aroma. Malty, mellow, spicy, extreme Christmas beer, but very pleasant for me. Ends with chewy caramel and fudge as well.

a sim rate:
I tried. I really tried. It was overly-fizzy upon pouring and all went downhill from there. The first sip was way too strong. I wasn’t quite sure if it was sweet or savory. Cinnamon. No, bovril. No, rosemary. No, sugar. No, clove. It’s awful. The palate is too syrupy. The taste is too overwhelming. I can’t make out what I’m drinking and that frightens me. Sorry. Drain pour.
