to say it tastes like a cookie would be understatement. Definitely a sugar cookie. Too syrupy. Kentish hops and pilsener malt. The ginger and cinnamon are too shy to notice. The top-fermenting is a plus, as is the cloudy look. With such a simple taste, how did this win an award? (on tap for ale festival at the standing order, new town, edinburgh, scotland).

Cask, but I presume not conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Hazed gold with no head. What on earth was this, very sweet, malty and spiced, everything I don’t really like in a beer. Yeasty and bready, quite poor.

Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford, in Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival. Hazy gold with a small white head and a slight spicy aroma. Very sweet taste, rather bready, with ginger and cinnamon. Slight dry finish. Not beer as we know it, but I quite liked it.

Cask - JDW, Canterbury. I think it’s fairly safe to say that this can be summed up in one word: sweet. One shouldn’t really expect something named ’Cookie Beer’ to be anything other than sweet though, I suppose. It’s a hazy orange beer with a frothy white head. The aromas are sweet with some doughy biscuit notes (shock horror!) and, at times, also hints of boiled sweets in the background. The flavours are typically Belgian on the surface with more biscuity characteristics. Surprisingly clean palate texture with no bitterness. Rather interesting and better than I had expected.

Bottle. Unclear golden colour with a huge white head. Little aroma of coockie, malt and some yeast-like. Malty flavour with a lot of caramel, very sweet. Hard to find the 8 % alcohol. Sweet and little bitter finish.

Bottle at the Marble in Manchester. Great pub, I left 40 quids worth of beer there yesterday and it was still there when I rang up two hours later. Interesting indeed, like cookies, love beer so I was intrigued. Wasn’t let down, tasty indeed. Looked like the death star exploding in there. Bits everywhere. Hints of cookies obviously, ginger, biscuit, slightly spicy. Sweet, a little gassy. Nice indeed. And good to watch while you’re nursing a bad head like mine.

ZBF 2008: Hazy amber with yellow highlights and quick dying white head. Aromas of speculaas as the name suggests. Also oatmeal raisin cookie dough. A hint of something green underneath the sweet cookies. Flavors of the above mentioned speculaas and oatmeal raisin cookies. Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, a touch of caramel, and some dark dried fruits. Very sweet with a long sweet and spicy finish.

Bottle. Hazy deep golden with lots of small floaties. Sweet spiced cookie aroma. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and dry with spices, bread and cookies and some ginger(?). Sweet cookie finish.

Bottle. Golden beer with a strong head. The aroma is mulled, spiced and fruity, and the flavour is quite sweet and fruity spiced. Overall a too strong and too sweet beer.
