3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jonas (4590) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - OCT 19, 2010
A perfect pour at Popeyes gives it a 5 for looks: Beautifull breaking leaves it with a thick brown head and and a dark brown colour. Light metallic roast aroma. Chocolate, a hint soy, a bit molassis. Chocolate aftertaste plus a hint salt. Unusual but good.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Grovlam (4108) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUN 24, 2009
bottle. Small fizzy off-white head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Black color. Light roasted malt, caramel, hint of smoke, light wood like feel. Goes quite well with the sushi we had. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor. Sweet light roasted finish.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 omhper (15958) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 19, 2009
Draught at Eni-bru, Osaka. Claer dark brown, small head. Molassess and caramel abound. Sweetish and clean. The roasty malt flavours go missing amongst sweet fudge. Low bitterness. Not for me.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KyotoLefty (3760) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 4, 2008
Echigo makes at least 3 stouts: An unfiltered bottled one at 6%, a filtered once in the can at 7%, both of which are called Echigo Stout, and this one, also filtered, at 7%. I’m not sure of the connection between the other two, but this one is definitely different. Black. The tan head quickly went to a few mm. Fruity, hoppy aroma, with roasted malts and nice American style hops. Woody, smoky, roasted flavor, with esters, hops, just a touch of cherries, coffee. Slightly sour. Light palate, crisp and refreshing. Interesting for a stout.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bluekuma (94) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 9, 2007
330ml. bottle. Pours a lively dark brown with little head. Full aroma of roast malt with underlying fruit. Smooth, slightly syrupy on the palate with velvety roast malt flavours to the fore. With some chocolate, a hint of blackberries, powdery hops and a lingering, mellow, bittersweet, roasty finish, we have a beer moved by the spirit of Jazz.
