(Translated from the Japanese on the can) We’ve used the delicious water and Koshihikari rice that Niigata’s nature has provided and made this in a German-style decoction mash. This is a dry beer with a crisp palate and finish.

17oz bottle pour, small beer glass. Pale yellow color, with little head, but lots of carbonation. Dry, crisp lager, paired great with sushi, and sriracha spice. No lingering bitterness like other Japanese premium beers.

Echigo Koshihikari has a thick, slightly off-white head, a hazy, straw-gold appearance, some bubbles, and significant lacing left behind. The aroma is of sharp, sweet boiled rice and pale malts. Taste is of those two elements, with balancing hop bitterness, grass, and unsweetened rice pudding. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Echigo Koshihikari finishes decently crisp and and on the clean side of things. RJT

Dark straw color with a moderate sized white head. Hints f grains and a decent noble hop aroma. Light caramel and flan flavors. Mild light fruit noted late. Quite easy to drink.

Enjoyed from the can. This smelt of corn, rice, grains and sweet earth. Taste follows, fresh cooked rice, cold creamed corn, basic earthy grainy taste. Very refreshing and lasting palate of sweetness

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (horse feed, cereal, wort, grain, husks). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, husky/raw. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Icky raw aroma that’s exactly like bad non-alcoholic beer, raw barley and wort. An offensive drain pour.

350 ml can. (Marukai Market Place) Honolulu, HI.
Clear golden color with a small white head. Dry papery, corny and ricey aroma. The flavor is dry corny malt, rice and paper. Some mild sweetness lurking there in the back. The aroma and flavor ain’t that strong. Stop wasting the best quality Koshihikari rice for this.

grainy, cardboard/paper, mild herbaceous/grass pokes through every once in a while. pretty boring and not worth the premium over any generic lager

Can from Foodshow in Tokyu. Drank straight from the can. Aromas of sweet rice and light peach. Taste is similar. Fairly sweet, but still drinkable. I’m really not a fan of Koshihikari beers...why do I keep rating them? Because it was in a can I guess...sigh.

From a bottle. Pours dull amber with minimal head, typical of style, mildly sweet malt aroma, sessionable, not terrible.

Dorada clara y limpia, de un dedo de espuma blanca y fina burbuja. Aroma escaso, herbal. En boca es eminentemente cereal pero no dulce, con amargor moderado. Seca, e insípida.

Visual: Pours golden orange with a sizeable foamy head, a 1mm layer of ultra fine retention, lots of spread out steady streams. Nose: bright and sweet barley malts, trace (lvl-3)-pungency Attack: super crisp bite Mid-palate: (lvl-4)-gentle sweetness, (MAIN) cereal grain, faint barley malt Finish: liquid malt adjunct sweet finish. Summary: I’m guessing the sweetness comes from the rice. 100% a meal beer; not a whole lot of flavour but does a good job of cleansing the palate.
