Toast and caramelized malts on the nose with traces of chocolate. Pours dark red amber with a thick off white head. Sweet and toasted malts upfront with hints of an earthy bitterness but finishes relatively sweet.

This is a ho-hum amber ale that doesn’t make the overseas travel well, muddled malts.

From can in Narita, Japan. Amber pour with thick head and good lacing. Big aroma of floral hops and caramel. Taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma, but is still floral hops and caramel, toffee, and not too sweet. Creamy mouthfeel. Good carbonation. Dry finish. Very nice. Balanced and easy to drink.

Keg at Popeye, Tokyo. Clear amber, mid sized head. Light peaty aroma. Mid dry with light-medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Peaty malt, some floral hops. Notes of grass in a mid bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Medium amber, quite hazy. Aroma and flavour of caramel with fruity esters. Light bodied, approaching over carbonation. Ok.

A tasty red ale that is a little ’light’ in my book. Would be happy to have another though!

Copper, clear, beige head. Aroma: toffee, some toast, berry-like fruitiness. Flavor: toasty malt, a little caramel but a grainy finish dries it out, a few plumb-like notes.

350 ml can. Pours with a nice, slightly brownish top that keeps well. Dark reddish amber. Rich aroma, some fresh floral hops mixed with soft tropical fruits - mango and papaya. Taste is smooth, with some soft malts in the beginning and lingering caramel and hop bitterness at the end. Aftertaste caramel, almost as if I had some porter instead of amber ale. Light-mid body with a soft and smooth mouthfeel. Very Japanese and nicely balanced.

I found this bottle in Mike’s cellar. Nice. Pours a clear dark amber color with a small white head. A sweet nose of toffee and caramel, some fruity hops. Clean flavor, fairly hoppy with light bitterness, caramel, a little bit dusty. A good amber. Japanese tick number 77!
