4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 onceblind (2534) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Deep black with a thin ring of beige foam around the glass. Closing your eyes and smelling the aroma, you could forget this is a black beer. Tropical hoppiness like papaya and floral resin, with a sweet malty backbone of caramel and toffee. Flavor starts semi-bitter with pine and floral flavors, quickly mixing with a deep malty caramel and roast malt tone, a touch of smoke, and finishing slightly piney and roasty-sweet.

Tap @ Echo. Pours a reddish, dark brown appearance with a tan head. A bit min/piney, caramel, chocolate malty aroma. Pretty roasty, bitter piney, herbal hoppy flavor with some booze and a fair amount of bitterness on the finish. The abv is tuned a bit too high for me on this one.

Nice job. Dry hoping kicks this black IPA into legitimacy. Nicely balanced, one of the better black IPAs I have tried!
